Abreu left knee injury from HBP

Featured Replies

Abreu was drilled in the side of the left knee in the bottom of the 6th inning. Couldn't even walk to first. Replaced by Vaughn.

I'd be shocked if he's not done for the season.

Please don't make any trades. Attempting to replace Abreu, Eloy, Robert, and Madrigal midseason is just not a thing that's possible.

Simply unbelievable with injuries this year.

fingers crossed just a bone bruise

Bruised Knee DTD.

We forgot that sometimes things can just hurt without having a piece of the person’s body ripped off/in half.

Jose has clearly had enough stuff bothering him that I wish they would give him 3 or 4 days to sit and come back out together. That said, he will probably be in the lineup tomorrow and will get a couple hits or something like that.

praise be!

i doubt he will be back in the line-up too soon.

It was a bruise but he couldn't even walk.  Bruises are often worse than they sound. like i said in the game thread i bruised my shoulder once and was convinced i broke my collarbone - i was playing bball and got trucked. I tried to shoot a free throw to test it out and literally yelled in pain.

I went right to the emergency room and xrays were negative - a bruise.

It took a couple weeks to heal.

I hope it doesn't keep him out too long

I think this was baseball's way of saying to Abreu to take a break.

Fastball to the knee.

Wish we were a little closer to the All-Star break. A 10-day IL stint with 4 days off would be nice.

He was limping on that knee before he got hit. That one is going to be a while. May, in some way, be a blessing to get him to rest it.

Yeah it’s a part of the schedule too where we play bad teams so might as well. Rather have him be healthier later in season.

How I would fill out the lineup card with Abreu out:

vs LHP: TA 6, Vaughn 3, Moncada 5, Grandal 2, Mercedes DH, Garcia 7, Mendick 4, Goodwin, 8, Gonzalez 9

vs RHP: TA 6, Goodwin 8, Moncada 5, Grandal 3, Collins 2, Lamb DH, Garcia 4, Vaughn 7, Gonzalez 9

Abreu needs a short DL trip to get healthy. He’s not right.

Why am I petrified the Sox will say something like, after consultation, Jose's knee was re-examined and it's shattered into 10,000 pieces. He should be fine for Spring Training?

Bone bruises and edema can be tricky sometimes.  More often than not they are very short term but this he is a Sox player this year and abolute worst case scenarios are the norm.
