White Sox playoff position tracker

Featured Replies

Kansas City was eliminated earlier this week. The White Sox have clinched at least a tie with Detroit, the elimination number down to 1.

Elimination Number = Magic Number (clinch a tie) + 1 (elimination)

  • 1 Detroit
  • Cleveland

Will restore the seeding tracking if there is a substantial turn for the better.

10/1: Houston wrapped up the AL West last night, and one more win by Houston or loss by the Sox will lock Houston in as the #2 seed, with Tampa Bay already having clinched the #1 seed. New Y

All right, so the Cleveland elimination number is 6.

White Sox have 1 game left in Texas and 3 in Detroit.

Cleveland has 1 against New York and 4 with Kansas City.

That totals 9. White Sox need a combination of 6 Sox Wins and Clevelander losses out of those 9. Otherwise, it comes down to that 5 game series in Cleveland.

Want to see it end - there’s your spot. Probably first 2 games of that series: Would take some really strong effort by someone to prevent it.

Hypothetically, Cleveland sweeps that 5 game series, and suddenly things would be real again. But yeah that would be one for the record books.

Cleveland up 2-0 early on Yankees.

4-0 on some of the cheapest hits imaginable.  No way Indians should win this pitching match-up

Looks like the Yankees are gonna be 1.5 out after today.

If we keep losing, Cleveland may make things interesting for us. That’s why I think resting players right now is a bad idea.

At worst, we go into Cleveland with at least a 6.5 game lead. And that's assuming we lose the next 4 and they win their next 5. If we screw up that badly, we probably don't deserve to win shit.

Cole getting lit up.  Let's see if the yankees offense can do something against a scrub pitcher

Higher seed Magic Number:

Rays over Astros for 1-seed: 10

Astros over White Sox for 2-seed: 10

I think the chance was there to catch Houston and it's been missed at this point.  Still possible but not looking likely.

Bye Bye Detroit.

5 left to eliminate Cleveland!

Weather looks like shit Tuesday and Wednesday in Detroit.

Like to see the Sox sweep the Tigers and take care of things themselves. But Detroit has won seven of their last 10 and are only half-bad.

I don’t get why it’s 5 and not 4

Soto being out helps

I think the Sox will clinch Thurs or Friday due to weather in Detroit. Hopefully MLB won’t make them go back to Detroit next Monday to play 2. If they end up playing 160, oh well.

Yes, I stand corrected.

Cleveland wins all remaining games: 88-74

Sox win four more vs. Detroit or Cincinnati: 89-73.

AL wildcard with two weeks left. All about the loss column.

Red Sox and Blue Jays- 65
Yankees and A’s- 67

9/20:

Magic number = 4

Detroit was eliminated Sunday, joining Minnesota and Kansas City. Cleveland could be eliminated as early as Tuesday.

Sox remain 3 back of Houston.

In the Wild Card race Boston is in the first spot 1 games ahead of Toronto in the second spot. New York and Oakland both 1.5 back and Seattle 4 back.

Over in the National League, the Giants are in front of the Dodgers by 1, with both having clinched at least a WC spot. St. Louis holds the 2nd WC spot, with Cincinnati 3 back, Philly 3 back (Sunday night pending) and San Diego 3.5 back. Philly only 1.5 behind Atlanta in the East (again, Sun night pending).

I hope the Sox clinch at Detroit. It's been a while since anybody clinched anything in Detroit.

My gut says Tuesday.  Wednesday at the latest. I will say, Houston has struggled this year against under .500 teams and that Oakland series is no joke.  I think there's still a solid chance we get home field in the first round.

I really want that homefield! Just can't trust Houston in their stadium. (#BangBang)
