I didn't realize that vesting option just goes "poof" upon release.  The rest of the contract doesn't - it's just that Oakland is liable for it.

I think most vesting options just disappear when that player no longer plays for the team that is in ownership of the contract. Unless another team picks up the exact contract, it doesn't apply anymore.

Correct, Oakland nullified the vesting option by cutting him before the required amount of at bats that make it vest, but paying the rest of this years contract in order to do so.

His contract was with Oakland.  When they released him he now requires a new contract with his new team which includes none of the former stipulations.

How many contending teams would consider Andrus an upgrade?

Here is the way I look at it.

At this point, I can’t really see a good reason why you wouldn’t acquire him. I don’t really see the downside.

An upgrade from their second and third option at the position?  Probably all of them

Yes but he is going to want to go to a place he will play a lot.

Then it comes down to his perception about best fit and potential playing time.

And partnership with Harrison perhaps.

He gets a month to force the issue, but if there is another starting job out there for a team in the hunt I’m sure he will take it

He is playing for next contract if he wants.  Can't do that on the bench.

No guarantee Anderson comes back.

We have a true insider....is that Peggy K's son?

hahaha. i'd like to be an insder. naw, i just follow a bunch of beat writers of all teams on twitter. elvis had made noise for about a week and they just cut piscotty (l believe it was him) a week ago. Andrus was rumored to be next. Right place right time, got lucky it being an hour before it happened.

Damn now you see how people like Not Steve Cishek become fake insiders.

Exactly.  Certainly don’t think he’s a savior but he’s not going to hurt this team and he may help a bit so sign me(and him) up.
