I know I'm not the first to think of CWS becoming publicly owned like the Packers. Is it even a possibility in the MLB? The fans deserve better. Please know this is coming from someone who has defended Reinsdorf more than most.

As long as they sell after Jerry kicks the bucket, I think the Sox will be fine. I think we are starting to entering the dollar Bill owner territory.

Green Bay is such a unique situation in sports. 

Just don't see replicating it... nor the public interest in bankrolling it with thousands of Sox shareholders in this current day and age willing to just throw their money into the wind. 

Not enough community good will at this point. 

Has to be something closer to Wrexham FC but on a much larger scale. 

The next entity to own the Sox more than likely will be a corporation. 

Let me say that if this ever happened, I would be so down with that approach and ready to be a Sox shareholder! Back to realty, that will never happen. The Packers situation is an anomaly. 

The next owner will be a very rich billionaire who will buy the Sox because he doesn't need the team for wealth or income, but he wants the thrill and ego of owning a baseball team. They will spend the money to not only compete with the big dogs, but probably use the time tested and logical "best practices" that they probably used in their successful business that they built making their billions. They will simply go recruit some top executives from a winning consistent team that knows how to build a farm system besides spending money in free agency. 

I'd say there's a non-zero chance that it'd be Mellody Hobson or Michael Jordan in a 2-for-1 purchase of the Bulls and White Sox (once he sells the Hornets).

The Packers thing is one of those things that would never happen today and only still exists as a miraculous vestige of an earlier era.

You don't want public ownership. You want some rich person who can't possibly spend all of their money, but is competitive as hell, and not so concerned with winning the battle for the biggest profit. 

The funny thing is the packers thing isn’t like the fans get a say in any of it.  There is still highly paid people in charge that make all of those decisions and they certainly do not answer to the fans.

I've been an owner of Coke for several decades. I never got much of a say in how it was run. 

Public ownership literally means nothing except for a way for the actual owners to make extra money from the fans.

The reason I ask is so White Sox Nation can pool their dollars together and save this organization

Packers "stock" isn't a real thing.

They're allowed to sell it b/c it's considered memorabilia, it doesn't convey any ownership

Celtics did the same thing back in 80s... more for novelty's sake.

It is actual stock (par value $0.025 per share), but the articles of incorporation state profit not reinvested in the team, including the sales proceeds from a liquidation of the franchise, is to be donated to the Green Bay Packers Charitable Foundation. 

The bylaws also state the corporation shall be located in Green Bay.

I believe nearly all fans of every team across the world would prefer the having the same type entity (all profits go to charity, the team cannot be relocated) than the current arrangement of a select few people profiting off of in many cases heavily tax subsidized private businesses.
