As much as I appreciate the human aspect of this I'm not sure that he's going to be here past his team control because I think he will be better than his last few starts before this one. 

Maybe they could get something for him as a rental in July 2026. 

There's no guarantee he would have held up health-wise even as a closer, and not everyone has the mentality as well as command/control to make it as a closer.

Sure, if he was equivalent of Josh Hader, that would be worth a ton.

The odds of another team targeting his continued development as a starter seems like that payoff will be decent enough.
