Grifol surprisingly defends Robert, annoys more Sox fans...must be trying to create any "supportive good vibes" possible before a trade?

One can almost hear "center cut" in Hawk voice.

Self-induced.

I can hear the silence from Hawk.

Glad MLB Now called out Robert today on their Un-baseball-y plays.

Just get behind the ball and make the throw. It’s just what you do.

Robert losing his mind over trade gossip. The guy is almost invisible. Sad.

And while it would have been nice for Robert to go through the motions, he doesn't have that 2 in 100 arm that would have made this play.  But it is almost a professional courtesy to at least give it a try.

If you’re so beyond hope to make the throw, why even go after that ball when it’s hit?

Just walk toward the dugout as soon as it’s apparent that you wouldn’t be able to keep the run from scoring.

Again, the runner on 3rd can fly, almost zero chance to throw him out, but he may come up lame, may fall down. As long as you are on the field getting paid millions, giving it your best shot should be the only option.  If he just throws the ball, there is no problem, all those defending him not throwing it wouldnt have a problem. Like someone wrote earlier, if you aren't going to give it a token toss, why even catch it?

It's even less than this because jimenez is a + runner. It was a 0% chance. People getting up in arms about this are completely delusional.

Oh sure. Like jogging back to the wall putting up your glove arm, and doing a little hop on a home run 15 rows out.

How is anyone on this team supposed to know that there's an injury risk associated with running the bases?

It was teed up for the talk shows today in Chicago if they decided to take a swing.

Robert not throwing home was frankly disgusting. There's nothing to lose by getting set and firing your best bullet home on a SHALLOW or medium deep fly ball in the ninth inning with a man on third for gosh sakes. Him not throwing home was frankly a disgrace to the game of baseball. You just don't see guys concede the game like that when the runner on third could fall or screw up.

He actually should be fined or benched two games. It's a sensationally bad optic and reflects on the manager! Leyland woulda reamed Robert for that one. Earl Weaver? Cmon he'd have torn into Robert verbally. Throw the darn ball.

That said ... I still like Robert as a player overall. Just furious however about that play.

Roberts's non throw was against the unwritten rules as well. You don't eat the ball there, ever, if you are a competitor!

The Sox aren't going to bench him for two games when the most important thing right now is proving his health and increasing his numbers/trade value.

Especially because in the last week he is seemingly starting to hit again, 333/.364/.810/1.173, 3 HR, 7 RBI.

This is the kind of thing that would NOT have happened under Ricky.

Say what you will about Renteria's tactical decisions, but the one thing he did do (seemingly) is to get the guys to show up and actually play baseball to the best of their abilities. These types of lazy plays would not have happened with him at the helm.

Ricky completely and utterly got the shaft, so to speak, by KW. He should never have been fired. Dumb.
