  • July draft sucks. Wastes a lot of developement time.

  • Also - f*** these new rules.

  • Walker was the Sox first pick (Comp round overall 47) who was a huge surprise when selected from a Utah CC. Literally no one thought he was a first rounder but Kenny saw him play one game and came awa

Micah Johnson and now Colson connections to Indiana...

Bad body 1B/DH but big boy can flat out crank.  He has an incredibly loose easy swing and feel to hit for a dude his size. Would love to target him somewhere 3-5.

BA has posted up their first mock draft of the season. This one has an anonymous major league scout alternating picks with Carlos. Will post through the top ten.

Quote

1.) Nationals - Jamie Arnold

2.) Angels - Tyler Bremner

3.) Mariners - Seth Hernandez

4.) Rockies - Billy Carlson

5.) Cardinals - Ethan Holliday

6.) Pirates - Marek Houston

7.) Marlins - Dean Curley

8.) Blue Jays - Ethan Conrad

9.) Reds - Aiva Arquette

10.) White Sox — Kruz Schoolcraft, LHP/1B, Sunset HS, Portland, Ore.
Scout Commentary: “Do they go back to the lefthanded pitching well at 10? I will go out on a limb and go with Kruz Schoolcraft here. The fastball is mid 90s. The changeup is the better secondary for him. He has the big 6-foot-7, 6-foot-8, Randy Johnson-looking frame. You get a young kid at 18 who’s already in the mid 90s from the left side? With his athleticism and that size, the slider will get better, and I think it’ll be an above-average pitch with the changeup showing flashes of plus right now.”

I’ve talked to scouts who prefer Schoolcraft as the top high school pitcher in the class. He’s got a massive frame, he’s athletic, he has a clean and balanced finish with elite extension and he’s already throwing 98 mph. I agree that the changeup is ahead of the slider now, but I’m pretty confident he’ll start ripping plus breaking balls once he’s working with pro pitching development. It also wouldn’t shock me if the White Sox don’t get a chance to draft him.

Other picks of note I found interesting. LaViolette at 11 to Oakland. Liam Doyle to the Astros at 21, and Gavin Kilen to the Phillies at 26.

I know we need hitters, but there is definitely a thought for leaning into what we do extremely well.

Doyle is going to go way higher than that it seems

We'll se how he holds up.  Tons of reliever risk there.

Another pitcher in the first?

We need to fix/address the position player side at some point.

To make a big splash to inject life into the fanbase as well.

This is shaping up to be an incredibly deep draft.

Feels like a pretty good class to be drafting 10th.

For sure and a good class to be picking 1st every round after.

There was interest in Shelton last year as a draft eligible soph.  He had big power and crazy high strike out numbers.  He flipped the script this year.  The power and strike outs are way down and the batting avg and on base is way up (funny how that works).  I like this version much better. He's not a SS but should be able to handle 2B and possibly 3B.

He's not gonna see many of those at the next level but that's what you're supposed to do with em.

Saw this guy when he was at Indiana St.  Big time stuff w/30 command.  He's also been ouchy.  Reliever profile.

You would think some of these guys would start separating themselves by now.  They're gonna have a huge mix to choose from. Wouldn't be surprised if it's as many as 20 guys.

Yeah, the college position player group seems to be 20 guys that you would be fine taking anywhere between 15-45 and nobody who really fits in the Top 5. I think a lot of teams will be shopping for deals in that group then scooping up HS arms later in the draft. I would be looking at HS bats for 1-10, but you never know.

It's kinda an odd group of college hitters.  You have a bunch of fairly polished hitters who have a chance to move quickly but are likely to be corners in Arquette, Curley, Irish, Taylor, Compton and Ford. You also have a group who are locks to stay at premium positions but have questions if they're gonna hit like Cannarella, Houston and Aloy.  Then there's LaViolette who has questions about both.  Right now I would say take one of the premium position guys and hope your new development dept can get him to be a league avg hitter.
