Local guy, had a very good 2023 for the Cubs

World series here we come.  34 years old.  Would have been one of our better hitters last year at. 248

34 years old.  I’m sure his best year is ahead of him.  I’d rather play the younger outfielder bums that Getz acquired last year and Colas.  Being a Sox fan is depressing…

I found it funny how Getz today said they need to acquire a RF after all the resources they’ve put into Colas, Fletcher and Deloach

What's a GM supposed to do? I mean, he had a pretty terrible minor league development guy... himself

Getz did say he wanted an OF.

Even if mediocre vets like Slater and Tauchman have good first halves, you aren’t getting back much of anything for them.  These aren’t true one year “flip” candidates.  Flip candidates are guys who have been good in the past and had a down year.  These are cheap vets that were never really good players.  Instead of signing these two scrubs, sign Austin Hays to a one year deal and see what he can do.  Hays is a flip candidate.

Giving the younger outfielders that you mentioned above those at bats is worth more than the lottery tickets you are going to get back for Slater and Tauchman, if you even get anything for them at all.

What the hell is Getz’s game plan here?  Does he even have a strategy?

For everyone we sign, my response is… who?

A bench outfielder for the Cubs the past couple seasons.  Could be starting for the Sox next season.

We are gloriously awful… for a long time.

Not even sure we get the Robbie Grossman/Kevin Pillar equivalent back in trade.

So now we're not even meeting the DeJong/Pham standard in retread dumpster diving.

And for the love of God, just let Colas go if this is the best replacement you can come up with.

Does this make a Robert trade more likely? He played some CF for the Cubs last two seasons.

I doubt it’s any indication.  The Sox have never been a team that cares much about outfield defense.  They could’ve just thrown Fletcher in CF, had they thought they were close to a Robert trade.

Wasn’t bad last season either. Higher WAR than Robert.

I think Robert is long gone, and Benintendi might be also

More cannon fodder

Maybe. But they’re clearly adding vets to the OF for a reason. Benintendi, Tauchman, Slater. Excluding Robert, those three are for sure on the MLB roster. Recently gave Cal Mitchell a NRI. Fletcher and Julks still exist. I’m not saying it’s great but they certainly didn't have anywhere near this type of OF depth going into the 2024 season.

Me too re: Robert. I think Beni stays put.

A collection of bad outfielders isn’t outfield depth.  Most teams wouldn’t want any of these guys getting any playing time.

Guardians at $86.4 million, Miami Marlins $86.5 million and TB $87.2 million to start 2024.

Real payroll targets now must be the Pirates at $72 million and Sacramento/LV A's at $47.1 (last) with Ross Stripling the highest paid player at $12.1 million.

Tauchman led off for the cubs a decent amount last season. He’s not a guy that a contending team would want starting everyday but he’d certainly get ABs on a number of good teams.
