I'm not a mod, but a short blurb of a sentence or two is allowable under fair use. When you post multiple paragraphs from a copyrighted story, you're putting this site in legal liability. It's really no joke. That, and it makes the string really hard to follow. Also, dropping the paywall doesn't matter. It's ESPN's property. Even free, they still want the clicks. The article link you posted explains what you can and can't do. But you're opening SoxTalk up to legal trouble if they don't take your stuff down. The point is to stay under the radar, not push the boundaries. Disney don't play.

What are the Rays supposed to do differently? The 2022 White Sox had an opening day payroll of $193,370,219 (7th highest), and $181,158,666 (13th highest) in 2021, as per Cots. So, the weirdness is explained away by the fact that they do spend.

Grandal Keuchel Meat + Potatoes Abreu Hendriks Graveman Kelly...yes, we can do this same exercise for 2006-2008, but that has zero to do with today's new moribund/desultory reality. We were actually generating solid broadcasting rights revenues back then as well.

"Since Ohtani signed with the Dodgers, they have signed Yamamoto, Teoscar, Sasaki, Kim, Scott, Yates, Treinen, Conforto, while trading for Glasnow, Edman, Flaherty, Hope, and Ferris" "Preller said when they lost Sasaki to the Dodgers even though they offered Sasaki more money " we only want players who want to play for us" (sounds like KW!) The Padres have signed zero free agents so maybe that says something about the two organizations?" https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/roki-sasaki-could-earn-dodgers-extra-mlb-draft-pick/ Edited January 21, 20251 yr by caulfield12

Well, I bought all that stuff at LAX in the fall of 2022 for my wife and son...but I ended up wearing ASG hat well before Ohtani. Cost around $50. Puig Memorial hat. Greg775 is soon to join the bandwagon. The Red Sox and Yankees and even Cards had their moments with Asian players, but it's now a near monopoly on the very best players. Or just blame it on exhaustive scouting coverage/networks.

I think it's more to do with flight times and the diaspora. A direct flight back to Tokyo from Seattle or LA is doable once a week in the offseason or so. It's a lot harder making connections and adding flight miles from anywhere else they play baseball in the US. Edited January 22, 20251 yr by chitownsportsfan
