Sox first week minor league numbers...

From the Sun-Times story:

Minor-league roundup

Catcher Kyle Teel went 3-for-5 with a homer, double and six RBI in Triple-A Charlotte’s victory Saturday. He added a hit and an RBI on Sunday.

Shortstop Colson Montgomery is struggling to start the season. He struck out four times Sunday and has one hit and nine strikeouts in his first 13 at-bats. Montgomery’s proclivity for striking out is alarming. He struck out 164 times in 130 games at Charlotte last season.

Catching prospect Edgar Quero had two hits and scored two runs Sunday.

Meidroth doing well too.  A homer and 4 walks already in 15 plate appearances.  Only 1 strikeout.  Good for a .467 OBP.

I know I hype him up a ton, but the OBP is going to play in the majors and he’s not a pure slap hitter.  He’s got great bat to ball skills, but his objective at the plate isn’t just to poke balls through the infield to pump up his BA.  The kid is one of the most selective hitters in baseball and that’s also in the strike zone.  He is willing to wait for the right pitch and making good swing decisions should help him get the most out what raw power he has.

And defensively, what he lacks in physical ability (range & arm) he makes up with skill and strong fundamentals.  His minor league teammates raved about his defense last year and I think he can be plus at 2B.  Watch video of him and you will see plenty of great plays.  He is a kid who simply gets the most out of the tools he has.

Except we drafted a first rounder in Jacob Gonzalez who also has across the board tools limitations...and who also probably isn't a major league SS.
