I see by the box score that the Sox actually scored in extras this time.....Progress, not Perfection.

Until Vaughn came up...that is.

  • I don't think that qualifies as a "slump" for Amaya.

  • What was the purpose of putting a pinch runner for Quero if you were not going to try to steal second and stay out of the double play, which, by the way, did happen. Vaughn should have been given the

  • In all seriousness Vargas' defensive improvement at third this year has been a very pleasant surprise

I'm under the impression Vaughn is one of the highest paid members on the team. I can't imagine him being DFA. Something has to be done. Elko desrves a chance. Hope its sooner rather than later.

Could still option AV. Would be an un White Sox thing to do but maybe a few weeks hitting against inferior pitching would help the guy out.

You do realize it's rarer in baseball history than a perfect game?

19 times vs. 24?  Schiffren probably is oblivious to it even happening since he doesn't care much for baseball history.

Middle of a Sox game thread seemed like the perfect time to drop a random nugget about Diamondback Eugenio Suarez

I've been reading alot of trepidation about this young man lately along with some clamoring for Mr Elko.

Sanders pretty much the second biggest story of the weekend, after Shedeur Sanders...you know, some people do flip around and watch other games or no hitters...if it's in another area of the site when a game's going on, nobody would notice it.

Fathom, for example brought up Lakers/TWolves and I appreciated the opportunity to watch Anthony Edwards' dominate.  And that was a totally different sport...but somehow the world kept spinning, or is it rotating, on its axis?

Sox machine podcast this week is calling for the same thing that it is time to option him.

I'm looking over his stats, and I wonder what compelled the Cubs (and then the Sox) to Rule 5 this guy.  He struggled  in the minors until 2024, where he had a sold year in AA, showing 20ish HR power but >25% Ks.  That's good, but there must be something beneath the numbers.  Perhaps he's a great defender?

Anyway, he's likely going to play the all-glove/"don't expect you to hit" role that Amaya currently holds; so seems like a good time to cut Amaya.

If you're referring to Workman, he's 70 grade defense at 3B, and a very good defender at SS.

Thanks - that's what I was looking for.

Seems like Amaya is superfluous now.

That was my take when the Cubs DFAed him. He seems like an unheralded lesser version of C. Monty.

Yeah, he's gotta go when Meidroth comes off the IL.

I don't think Montgomery is that well rated defensively

Could an opener start two or three games in a row in a playoff series? If he works just one inning? I wonder if we'll ever get to that point.

I’m waiting for the 13-man bullpen with 3-4 guys going 1-3 innings to open the game and then the other 9-10 covering the remainder of the game.

Mostly joking here…

Yeah before long every pitcher will go 1-2 innings max. More boring baseball as the pitcher will have an amazing fastball to go with the sweeper/slider as the out pitch. Lot more lefty/righty matchup b.s.

The Royals are last in home runs but .500ish due to pitching and Witt Jr.

Is that more interesting?

Maybe not...based on KC attendance numbers compared to let's say the Tony Pena-led "Nosotros Creemos" teams of Beltran Dye Sweeney that put up runs in buckets.

Yeah, hockey lost me once they started wearing helmets.
