I can't get past the point that no one wants to play here.  Talk all you want of signing players but it's nothing but DFA material or late signings like a Beni which you overpaid.

All of the free agents you mention would only sign if they are DFA'd.

These are mere hallucinations

Why?  It's happened.  Wheeler and his wife said as much when they were courted.  South Side of Chicago is not exactly crime free.  The Mayor is an idiot. So is the Governor. Taxes are high.  Attendance is low.  Add to that the fact that the team is mired in last place and the owner has a shitty reputation.

Doesn't seem to affect the Cubs in quite the same way...we shall see how it plays out with Tucker in FA.

What does wanting to be closer to family in New Jersey have to do with any of the rest of this?  No one connected to the Wheelers actually ever said any of this.

Yep, last I checked the Cubs play under the same Mayor and Governor and same set of taxes.  And I've never heard of them having a hard time attracting free agents because of all the things that some people hate about Chicago and Illinois.

And I'd hazard to guess that there are lots of "idiot" mayors and governers out there across the MLB cities.

Ah yes, the good old "the Sox play in a crime infested hellhole" trope.

What if JR decides to use some of Ishiba’s money to sign some power guys? A couple of power guys in the lineup would probably make the other guys in the lineup a bit better, that and I expect guys like Teel, Montgomery and Baldwin to get stronger and start hitting the ball out of the park.

IMHO, I'd rather that Ishbia's infusion of capital goes to shoring up the organization instead of worrying about high-priced FAs at least through 2026.

And I hope that part of this infusion goes towards settling the ballpark situation after the lease is up 2029.  Whether it's getting a new park built at the 78 or having major changes at 35th and Shields, something needs to be done.

It has nothing to do with the location of the team. It has everything to do with the people working at that location who you now report to. No one wants to sign up for that

There is no point to signing a marquee player (if the Ishbia $ is indeed true) until a new CBA is signed

...or...

Sign some superstar to a mega-deal with a ton of deferred money, with half the compensation being for the 2027 season that's going to get wiped out (or at least significantly abbreviated).
