What??

That’s the whole point- we can get those slow-mover guys, the good ones, for free.

And we aren’t short of our own decliners  - Charlotte’s full of them and we’ve been claiming them all season.  Again, for free

That's almost exactly what Rule 5 is.  And if it doesn't work, you literally set them loose on the street.

Robert is getting traded guys.  I don’t want to try to police what people can post about here, but debating the merits of extending Robert is an exercise in futility.  Jerry doesn’t want to pay him, t

It's pretty dead out there. Not even much in the line of "Reds showing interest in....". Seeing as Houser, Tauchman, Robert and the BP arms are all fallback options (maybe except for Robert), I'm guessing there won't be any real noise until after the Cub carnival, maybe even into the Phillies' series.

There is a block of like 10 teams that could be in, or could be out, and most have way bigger and more interesting pieces than the Sox.

I really don't think we're going to get back much in terms of meaningful young talent. Maybe we combine a few and get a team's #15 prospect or something, but I'd be shocked if we got a top 5 guy in a teams system.

Houser has been great, but he's still a guy they signed off the street. Teams are going to mortgage anything of significance. Tauchman is a platoon player, bat off the bench. Good hitter, and a depth piece.

Robert is the most interesting, but teams aren't taking him on for much of anything.

I'm honestly not opposed to keeping a few of these guys and trying to work on improving this club, but I think they will continue to trade veterans for anything they can acquire.

I don’t know how Tauchman is viewed as a platoon player.  He’s got a 120 wRC+ against RHP and a 192 wRC+ against LHP.  And in the prior two years, he was over 100 wRC+ against LHP.  I think he’s a legit good hitter who comes with injury risk and limited defense / speed due to his hamstring.

Yeah, he's always been at least solid to good against LHP.

That's how he would likely be used down the stretch -  against tough lefties, and later inning pinch hitter.

Maybe there's a team that uses him a bit more but I think most of the top teams would use him in a specific role.

Robert in "young with upside" tier of available OFs:

Is this the year trade rumors surrounding Robert finally turn into a deal? The 27-year-old continues to struggle with the White Sox, but there are some points in favor of trading for him despite his .636 OPS. He is a strong defender in center field, a very good base-stealer and is obliterating left-handed pitching this season (Robert has a .966 OPS against lefties this year and a .529 OPS against right-handers). Robert is also in the last guaranteed year of his contract; he has team options worth $20 million in each of the next two seasons. Once again, a set platoon role with the chance for something more if others struggle could be on the table. Who knows how a move away from the White Sox can energize a player with Robert's talent?

I still think that Lenyn Sosa's a fallback in the 3B bat race.

Maybe Sox should play him at 3B more.

Is he though?

After Suarez I see McMahon and potentially Wilii Castro who has played 3rd in the past as well.  Ramon Urias probably too.  Obviously some depends on who decides they are out of the race, as well as who is looking to upgrade at 3rd.

Yep, I saw McMahon mentioned as a cheaper 3B fallback option to Suarez for the Yankees and Cubs.  I also just don’t see Sosa netting a prospect/player better than him, but who knows…

I don't believe Spencer was ever on the table.

Lol.

Now that we don't need a SS (Colson looks like he can hold down the fort for a couple years until Carlson is here) and since Arroyo is still struggling in AA, I would take Chase Petty from CIN for Robert since the latter is heating up.
