Schultz seems to be hurt. Not good.

Well, better than his arm.

Thought the same thing. Hopefully nothing serious.

It's probably not a good thing for a dude of that size to be having knee problems.  Hopefully this isn't related to the changes the team made in him.

Changing the pitch mix doesn't typically involve the knee.

Oddly enough, this news kind of made me feel better. One because it’s not arm/elbow/shoulder related, and two, it could explain why he hasn’t been pitching good as of late.

Knee and back problems don't really go away.

I feel like they have generally been better at managing injuries this year, but I don’t understand why they would let him continue to pitch if they knew he wasn’t 100% healthy.

Still better than an upper body injury imo. But yeah, it is concerning especially given how tall he is.

This is what the Sox do.  They push injured players to keep going.  It's another one of things that hasn't changed.

Schultz was warming up in the bullpen.  How is that "pushing him"?

During a full baseball season no one is 100% healthy. Sorenesses ans aches show up. Its a grind on the body. The key is to determine what is a soreness, pain and injury.

Usually the soreness especially go away with treatment. This one was progressing so they need to take a deeper look.

It's just easier to say this is what the Sox do as if they don't care . You do your best to educate the ignorant but they have their own bitter , unsubstantiated beliefs.

If it was a problem and players thought they were medically mistreated wouldn't we be seeing multiple lawsuits ? I'm sure the whole medical community is acutely aware of the high probability that athletes could sue but rarely do.

A-Rod sued the Yankees doctors and a hospital in the most talked about case but that was over 10 years ago.

Frank Thomas sued some White Sox Doctors in 2006 and he ended up settling out of court but the 2 Doctors initially sued were dismissed from the case and the settlement was with an outside medical group contracted by the Sox.

In 2019 Bobby Jenks settled for $5.1M after suing a MAssachusetts hospital and doctor after having complications after spinal decompression surgery from a Doctor who was performing concurrent surgeries. This was when he was pitching with the Red Sox.

On Yoendrys Gomez: shockingly good numbers for a Charlotte starting pitcher this year. I'm not sure that I buy he's going to give the White Sox value as a starter. Prior to coming to the Sox, I didn't see much to like on the statsheet for Gomez. But Statcast gave a clue what the Sox were looking at: some exceptional movement on his sweeper. The rest of his arsenal didn't seem like anything special but you can go a long way with a great sweeper if you use it right. He also has huge drop on his curveball but that's less of a weapon nowadays. Fastball is pretty average. He has a somewhat unique release point which is something Bannister has mentioned as appealing in some other Sox pickups.

In AAA, Gomez is getting an incredible 51% whiff rate on the sweeper. Batters are hitting .040 against it. His four-seamer is performing okay too, maybe because hitters are worried about the offspeed. He's getting 40% whiff rate on his curveball too but some of the contact has been hot against it. He basically only uses the curve against lefties. He's mixing in a changeup and non-sweeper slider but they both appear to be crappy pitches.

So I see a glimpse of a guy who could thrive in a bullpen role in which you can protect him from seeing too many lefty hitters and let that sweeper eat. Kind of a Steven Wilson profile although I acknowledge that doesn't sound very exciting.
