Padres acquiring Mason Miller & J.P. Sears from A's

Featured Replies

Remarkable deal for the A's, in my opinion. I get the logic for the Padres but I'd guess most of the league is wondering what the hell they are up to

  • The Padres are basically a somewhat successful version of what Kenny and Rick wanted for the Sox.

Didn't you just say this wasn't an impressive return?

  • Love or hate Preller, he sure makes the trade deadline fun.

Well you also downgraded prospect values in two straight posts, so it kind of sounded like it was a good deal the non-prospect way.

Everyone in the thread was calling it a big win for Oakland. I chime in saying it's a nice deal and that prospects are being overvalued. Somehow you've taken that to mean I said something I never said. Weird stuff!

What exactly are you saying then?  Because I have no idea with all of the extra qualifiers.  Prospects are overrated.  Not everyone values these guys... what do you mean then?

It means it was a nice trade, jaysus man. I said it three times.

My other points are just around how trades are discussed in general. The idea that this guy is a consensus top 5 prospect is a public-consensus which is significantly different than where teams value guys. I then went on to explain it pretty in depth and nicely here:

"For example, I know several teams wouldn't have an 18 year old that low in the farm in their top 5 because the risk associated with the time-to-majors is substantial. Look at former top prospect, within the same farm, Salas who people had "consensus in the top 10 prospect" just a couple years ago."

You have a hard time just saying you misread something and moving on. Trying to tell me what i said over and over again is beyond weird.

This is literally all you had to say.  without that context, is sure sounds like you are contradicting your own statements.

They must REALLY think Miller can stick as a future starter...or are keeping Cease?

They can't risk losing Cease and Suarez with only QO's...plus Arraez and Michael King, who has been out two months and returns soon as well.

Preller won't let all four walk with only draft picks at best.

Let's not forget Sears and Musgrove next year added to the mix...and they're trying to sign King to a more affordable extension after the injury this season has cost him half the year.

what was a better return, what the As got for Miller or what the Sox got for crochet?

Crochet....unless you really believe de Vrieze will be a star.

Preller obviously didn't.

Teel and Braden alone ate worth more than de Vries who hadn't proved he can even handle AA as of yet, let alone dominate advanced A ball.

747 ops at Fort Wayne hardly guarantees anything...feel he might end up closer to Abrams Lite than Tatis or Merrill.

Miller with 4 1/2 years of control, too.
