DFA's?

After the deadline dust has settled, any releases or DFA worth trying for?  Imagine Twins try several after their roster decimation.

Also, I believe you can still trade minor leaguer for minor leaguer as we dumpster/bargain bin dive.

Can I interest any other MLB team in a slightly used Josh Rojas/

The Sox 40 man is at 38, so anything's possible, but strangely their active roster is starting to get a little crowded. Anyone they pick up has to be better than what they got. I guess a right-handed hitting outfielder to replace Slater? But otherwise, they have a full roster and reasonably cromulent guys at AAA. I'd be surprised if they did too much dumpster diving now.

In all seriousness, I would expect the Sox to look at the pitchers and OFs that hit the wire.

Ryan Pressley has to be going back to the Twins...

Non-40 Man minor leaguers can still be traded.

Perez is coming off i believe so 40 man will be at 39 soon enough. 40 man is at 43 including the ILers so we're going to have some churn as is soon enough.

Some of the 60-day guys will be out until the end of the season.

Yeah thats when I meant for. I think we have 5 FAs to offset those but with incoming FAs and rule 5 protections, thinking theres still quite a bit of churn to be done come end of year

These 6 guys would need Rule 5 protection over the winter. I could see them caring about Davitt, Adams, McDougal and Pallette. Schweitzer wasn't ready for AAA, so MLB could be a reach. Murphy, I think is mostly smoke and mirrors, pitches to contact at AA.

Tyler Schweitzer
Mason Adams
Duncan Davitt
Payton Pallette
Tanner McDougal
Shane Murphy

Schweitzer has had a rough go of it in Charlotte so can't imagine he will require rule 5 protection, however the other pitcher they got back from Rays (Peoples) will so 6 feels about right

Starting with the 38 they have now on active roster:

4 are free agents (Rojas, Taylor, Civale, Alexander)

3 get added back on from 60 day IL (Thorpe, Bush, Berroa)

3 seem like obvious drops (Noda, White, Shuster) of which later 2 are out of minor league options anyway

That gets you to 34 in offseason and the 6 spots for rule 5 protection

If protect all 6 and get to 40, assume 4 spots will open up at start of season (Thorpe, Berroa, Bush, Adams on 60 day IL).  Plus 2 more are out of options:  Korey Lee (traded?) and Ramos (he can probably be DFA'd in spring and retained off of 40 man); so lots of spots will open up but not until end of spring training so guessing most free agent activity will be of minor contract variety and require earning a spot.

Gus Varland is included but haven't seen him pitch this year, not sure what is going on there injury wise.

Rojas and Taylor need to be 1 and 1A.

Getz has loaded up with another batch of what are probably organizational minor leaguers, so he’s got to at least give them an audition.  He did trade for these players, as well as many already floundering in AAA.
