Josh Naylor and Devin Williams.

I feel like Mead could be in the mix as a regular.

I'd have my bench be Mead, Baldwin, vet OF

Civale is a FA after this season, Sox don't have control, so he is questionable .

Mentioned this in the Robert thread but if they do pick up his option, I wonder how much $ would be left to spend after that.

That $20 million would be like $5 million more than they spent all of last offseason.

Would love to see them sign a thumper of a corner outfielder/DH. I just don't think they are quite there yet (strictly Isbhia speaking).

They need to change their image more than anything else.  If you think Reinsdorf you think toxic. The same goes with a few other organizations.

That's the challenge for Isbhia.  This wont happen overnight.

It's wishful thinking of signing quality free agents.  Money doesn't always talk when some have enough. They only bribe they take is long term contracts.

Depending how the rest of the season plays out, I hope they think about adding a real player in free agency. Could you imagine Kyle Tucker on this team? Perfect fit. Never gonna happen. Pete Alonso isn't gonna happen either. Naylor or Hoskins seem like realistic targets, but also like fool's gold.

If they trade Luis, Mullins would be a really good replacement too. I think Tucker would transform this team though, swap out Benintendi's (lately good) production for Tucker's consistent .850 OPS/solid defense/5 WAR and suddenly the team's biggest hole is it's biggest strength.

Realistically, we probably don't sign anybody high value. Win a little bit in 2026 with the internal group and then maybe players will actually want to sign here.

They’re probably at ~$60M with Robert, Benintendi, Tauchman, and 23 pre-arb guys.  Their payroll this year to start the season was $78M and was the lowest it’s been in quite a while on an inflation-adjust basis (the previous rebuild bottomed out at $92M in 2025 dollars for perspective).  I’d wager we’d have some money to work with assuming they feel the needle is pointing up.

All depends on how bad the TV deal is.

Are we sure Meidroth > Sosa? Neither are complete players, but it’s skill vs. impact and this team needs impact.

Fwar:

Meidroth 1.2 83 games

Sosa 1.3 93 games

I really like Quero behind the plate. He really controls the game well and the bases.
with Teel having experience in the outfield from college, I would really like to see him move to LF this offseason. That way we get both Teel and Quero in the line up together.
Lee is a solid and quality backup. I believe this would give us our best option.
Beni becomes a full time DH.

We should trade one of Teel or Quero before moving them off catcher completely.

I think we need to give me Meidroth more time before having this debate.  Sosa was a -0.8 fWAR / 65 wRC+ player through his first 578 PAs.  Meidroth is at 1.2 fWAR and 86 wRC+ (with some bad batted ball luck) in his first 349 PAs.  Chase is still very much a developing player (as to be expected with a rookie) and I expect both his BA & OBP to improve substantially over the next couple years.

I don’t disagree that Chase needs to find a way to make more impact, but there is still time to add some strength even if his frame will limit how much.  That being said, we are talking about a player with elite bat to ball skills.  His squared up rate is 2nd overall in baseball behind only Luis Arraez.  Unlike Luis though, Meidroth has elite plate discipline and should eventually walk like crazy.  The reality is we are talking about a unicorn with two elite offensive skills who plays good defense and is a smart base runner.  The power / bat speed is lacking, but small enhancements there could result in a truly special player as his ability to square up on a small and make good swing decisions will maximize whatever power he has.

The big issue is if you aren't a threat, pitchers in MLB aren't going to walk you at the rate that MiLB pitchers do.  They will come after chase if he has no power.

Start getting Lenyn playing time in LF and get Baldwin more playing time.

I still really, really want to see Taylor's arm build more innings.

Look at the value of Royals' Fermin in this week's trade market...two back end starting pitchers, and maybe even better than that based on 2025 numbers.

I was ready for Lenyn in LF and Brooks in CF.

I’m not sure I’m following here.  Why would one of the best pure hitters in baseball care if pitchers come at him more?

Brooks definitely needs more playing time in the OF.  He’s been close to league average hitter over the past month despite inconsistent playing time.  I’m also totally for Sosa and others trying out an OF glove.  Benintendi should primarily be a DH and while I love Tauchman he’s a guy who will need frequent resting to stay healthy.

I want them to sign 2 legit high leverage relievers, one them being a proven closer like a Devin Williams, Jordan Romano, or a Ryan Helsey.

Id also like to see them add more power so Ryan O’Hearn with his Fuller connection would be a fit, Hopskins and Naylor would be too.
