That's not to say that I'm predicting Andrew Vaughn has anywhere near the same level of success in his post-Sox career as Semien has had. He could very well end up as much of a bust as he was on the Sox. But even if he was able to sustain success, I expect at least some Sox fans to think he still sucks. Perhaps a trade in December or next July for a decent, prospect. There is not much opportunity cost either way with Vaughn. Not trading Civale at the deadline was a bigger screwup than trading Vaughn for him. The opportunity lost in trading Semien and Basset was massive: years of control for 2 players who turned out to be excellent. And for what? For our 73 win team to rent Samardiza for a season.
