  • They don’t have anywhere near enough pitching to compete if they kept Robert. None of this is about 2026.

    According to whom?

  • The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.

I don't see how this is anything but a flyer for the Reds. Bleday isn't good.

Feels that way.

Why?

He finally has some other bats in the lineup and his value doesn’t justify his ceiling. I know he’s oft injured but I’d rather bank on the upside with more lineup protection than give him up for simply whatever you can get right now.
I know you really want the Sox to get that comp pick but if they’re gonna trade Robert they gotta get someone back that has more of an impact than a Chase Petty. And if the offer isn’t out there hold him, it seems as though Chris Getz isn’t desperate to move him.

They need pitching...bad.

From what I’ve seen, the Mets want to send their utility and under/never-developed infielders, an uninteresting demographic and one the Sox don’t need.  I think it would be fine to grab promising, but unranked, prospects in the low minors.  But I doubt that’s what the Sox are looking for.

Looks like Reds are signing Bleday.

Yep, that sucks.  Down to the Mets.  Acuna is 🤮.

They are obviously hoping he’s the guy he was in 2024, not 2025.  But I doubt they are signing him to sit on the bench.  He wouldn’t have signed with them to do that.  I’m sure this takes them out of the Robert sweepstakes regardless.

They need outfielders way more. They have the worst OF in MLB and thats with Luis Robert. Trading him for some projectible 4/5 does little and you can likely get it in 6 months anyways. Robert should mean more to the development of the kids already up then he likely gets in a trade.

I don't think they do anything more without moving his money.

They won't do anything if they move his money. And if they do, it'll be the same veteran 1 year 8-10 million dollar deal that has yet to ever work out. Luis Robert may be overpaid but he will give you more than whatever you replace him with on any part of the diamond

I agree, I think their pitching staff stinks but I’d still rather try and rebuild Robert’s value than give him up for whatever you can get. I want to see how he can perform with some lineup protection for the 1st time in years. At worst you got a good glove caliber defender in CF.

Do the Reds still need help in the OF?

Also Bleday struggled to hit in that Sacremento park...my goodness that's a really bad look. I don't see how he isn't just a platoon bat.

Meh. He won’t be healthy and if he is, rental bats don’t bring back any return anyway.

In May, you could potentially see an OF of (if he isn’t moved):

LF Benintendi (he’s paid a lot, he’s here. He’s going to play)

CF Robert (again, if not moved)

RF Montgomery

Not really room for another every day OF

At worst, you get nothing out of him because he gets hurt again because he is so injury-prone.

Hes not bringing back a return right now. You're moving him just to move him.

My post was in regards to moving Robert. That is the worst OF in baseball. They need production there.

If I’m not mistaken you said that teams were offering the Cedric Mullins-type return to the Sox for Robert. If that’s the case take that at the deadline if it’s there if you are that desperate to get rid of him. And odds are he’s not healthy but I’m taking the gamble.

It's probably going to be better now than when he's a rental or when he's gone for nothing.

They certainly need more offense and the OF is probably an easier spot to add at for them.  I do think adding a legit CF makes a ton of sense for them still, but there is starting to be a roster crunch there.

I don’t know how much this changes. Nobody who wants to win is going to play Bleday in CF. He sucks.

And do all teams view him as a rental? He’d have another club option next year.

Honestly disagree. His potential stability even if for 110 games and protection is likely worth more to the younger players in this line-up than whatever you get in a trade at this point
