caulfield12
Jerry will almost always choose hard currency in hand over prospect return...probably hates sending money to a team like the Mets, just on principle. While Semien's contract features a higher AAV than Nimmo ($25 million in terms of the luxury tax calculation versus $20.5 million), it's of shorter duration and the move will cut into New York's considerable longer-term obligations. ... One thing that is head-scratching here: The Mets are pretty deep in high-quality infield prospects, from Luisangel Acuna to Ronny Mauricio to Jett Williams, all of whom carry considerably more upside than Semien at this point. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/46994593/2025-26-mlb-offseason-grades-free-agency-trade-analysis Edited November 24 by caulfield12

Timmy U
Those are two really bad contracts. Mets may now be the only team out there with more 2b than the Sox.

Investments/real estate. Everything's totally out of whack when a 98 square meter apartment in a second tier city like Wuhan cost around $375,000 to buy, and that price was significantly down from around $450,000 pre Covid. The biggest positive about China is health care is actually affordable, you can always see a doctor within 1-2 hours even on weekends and medical diagnostic tests are quite reasonable too...Lipitor is basically free through government-subsidized health insurance (wife or mother in law can purchase for me, but only one month's supply at a time.) Well, that and the cheap and efficient subway systems and high speed railways. Coca Cola and Gatorade haven't risen to more than 43-80 cents in over a decade. Apple products, imported cars, any luxury items like handbags cosmetics shoes and jewelry will be 25-33% more expensive. And having a child is crazy expensive: school tuition supplemental classes and activities...your male son is also responsible for all future wedding/honeymoon costs and must have an apartment (from parents usually) and car in own name or it's exceedingly difficult to marry. Women are outnumbered by men roughly 6 to 5, for myriad reasons that would require a dissertation to explain. Is Carlson really the only pure SS, as Bonemer has also been connected to 2B/3B?? Well, defensively Carlson is likely to beat anyone out at ss, including Colson. Let's see if Carlson hits. Bonemer can definitely play ss. He's better over there than at 3b. That said, he probably is not gonna force Colson to move, let alone Carlson. My feeling on Bonemer is that the Sox are gonna find a place for the bat. Is that ss? 2b? 3b? OF? I don't know. Also, the top 3 prospects in the draft are all ss. As for the guys in the system, Bergolla has great hands, but the arm is a little short. I guess he could be an Ozzie type at short, but it's marginal. Plus, there's zero impact. Utility future probably. Mogollon is not a ss. Perez played some 3b because Anonacci. He also played some ss. He's a 2b-only type guy.

I wish they would have played him after signing him. Ethan Holliday for example got many at bats in low A.

Hopefully, Carlson, Fauske, Hodge, and Boughton find similar success.

But he was already an advanced collegiate hitter. As long as high school kids get some kind of taste of professional baseball in their draft year, it's fine. Used to be at least two short season teams for most organizations, but cutbacks have hit hard...Appy League and Pioneer League.

Baseball America is always complaining about that but I am not so sure that those leagues are better for development than backfields are. Another case in point is Oppor who used a year at the complex to perfect his delivery and pitch mix.
