Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread

Battle between Phillies and everyone else over Schwarber is the biggest story to watch as Tucker remains on the backburner.

Olney: Cedric Mullins' choice to sign for a one-year, $7 million, with the Tampa Bay Rays could be a warning sign for this free agent class. Mullins was not a perfect free agent by any measure, after his struggles with the Mets, but the rapidity with which he agreed to a deal could reflect the general feeling that this market could play out like a game of musical chairs -- if you've got offers in hand, it'd be best to move fast and grab a spot (and money). Jorge Polanco could be among those who sign sooner rather than later -- he's coveted by the Mariners and some other teams. Harrison Bader set himself up well with a strong performance in Philadelphia.

Olney: It makes sense for teams that have trade candidates under team control into 2027 to weigh offers now because they might struggle to get proper value for those players next July, given the labor uncertainty after the season. That means players such as Mackenzie Gore of the Nationals -- and Paul Toboni, Washington's president of baseball operations, said in a "Baseball Tonight" podcast interview Wednesday that he has talked with Gore about hearing his name in trade rumors -- and Stephen Kwan of the Guardians.

Ketel Marte, E.Cabrera/Alcantara, B.Lowe, B.Donovan other big names on the early trade market.

At no point do I ever want Matt Shaw on my team because I will always actively root against him.

There really are some anonymous shitbags on this website. Just a completely derailed thread full of utter nonsense.

Sounds like our needs are:

  1. LH corner IF/OF bat
  2. Back-end reliever
  3. Back of rotation SP

It’s also very obvious the Sox want to trade Robert and that would likely create the need for an OF to be added.

Unless they go Benintendi Pereira/Hill Baldwin in the OF and Sosa DH.

If we plan to start Derek Hill post Robert trade, then Getz should be fired on the spot.  Pereira is interesting, but shouldn’t be handed a spot.  Benintendi probably shouldn’t play the OF much whether we are trying to win or trying to move him.

That might be the worst outfield in history

Indeed, and I think the outfield is actually set with Getz acquiring Pereira and signing Hill.  Baldwin is also there.  They currently have 5 outfielders.

They are picking someone else up if I had to bet. And I think they think Braden will be up in May.

So if they have 5 outfielders now, Robert hasn’t been traded yet, and they also think Braden will be up soon, why would they grab another outfielder?  I don’t see that happening unless Robert is traded during Spring Training.  The numbers don’t make sense at this point.

Yeah you gotta add at least someone interesting. Bleday had 20 bombs just 2 years ago from the left side. Also has 3 years of control if something clicks and you want him that long. Sign him.

Edit: doesn’t have to be him exactly. Just someone who was once a top prospect that has had some success (even if a little bit).

Hill is on a two way contract and can be sent to AAA for $450K instead of his major league salary.

He’s 100% a dude the Sox should add.  The A’s non-tendered instead of giving him $2.2M and they weren’t able to trade despite that nothing salary and multiple years of control.  Add him to the mix and see if Fuller can work some magic.  It’s a zero risk for us given our situation.

At only $900K, I’m sure he will be the backup CF.  The veteran minimum for next season is $780K.

The worst outfield in history, so far.

All jokes aside, if they trade Robert and don't spend the money, we riot.  They almost have to do SOMETHING with it

If we keep Robert, I don’t see why we need Hill.  Baldwin should get some time there in a backup capacity.  Pereira mostly played CF in the minors and should be able to handle in a reserve role.  Hill is 40 man roster depth and the fact he is on a two way contract that pays him a healthy salary if in AAA is very important as it’s clear to be more then wouldn’t kept him otherwise.

Anyone else think Dustin May could be an interesting free agent target?

Robert will be hurt for at least a month of the season.  At best he's a back up and fill in on defense.

I would think their handling of the IF would be the model. Vargas/Mead/Monty/Meidroth/Sosa, then the odd Rojas/Amaya/Capra to fill in, with Antonacci and others on the way. I could see them grabbing up another couple of Pereiras and such, rotate them in until you find 3 who won't die out there.

Robert gets traded, and they really try to limit Benintendi's innings on the grass.

Hill is out of options, as is Pereira. If they want to send Hill to the minors, they have to DFA him.

Walking it back Bob?

I think May, Gonsolin and a bunch others could be interesting targets. Some of these guys are going to look good, and will command $10M, or thereabouts, for 2026. I think Getz will wait a bit and grab up a target for much cheaper.
