At no point do I ever want Matt Shaw on my team because I will always actively root against him.

We'll see how accurate the $22 million figure is...

Five years?  Think most teams would much prefer four, but five sounds about right as an over pay with that final year written off.

Predictions from mlbtraderumors

15. Zac Gallen, SP: four years, $80MM

Tim: Diamondbacks  / Anthony: Angels  / Darragh: Giants / Steve: Giants

Edited by caulfield12

My bold predictions for the offseason are as follows:

  1. CF Robert, OF Benintendi, & $7M cash the to Phillies for OF Crawford and OF Castellanos (would be released immediately)

  3. Sign OF Bleday a 1/$2M deal
  4. Sign RP Hunter Harvey to 1/$8M
  5. Sign SP like Adrian Houser for 1/$4M
  6. Draft best pitcher available (starts season in pen)

Lineup:

  1. Meidroth, 2B
  2. Teel, CA*
  3. O’Hearn, 1B*
  4. Montgomery, SS*
  5. Vargas, 3B
  6. Quero, DH#
  7. Bakdwin, LF#
  8. Bleday, RF*
  9. Crawford, CF*

Bench:

  • IF: Mead
  • OF: Pereira
  • UT: Sosa
  • BC: Lee

Rotation:

  1. Smith
  2. Davis
  3. Burke
  4. Key*
  5. Houser/FA

Bullpen:

  • CL: Harvey

This is good. I don't understand the Robert trade. It looks to me like Robert and $7M for Crawford (which I think is a bit much for the Phils), THEN they take on two years of Benintendi for Castellanos. Do you see Beni's slight upside compared to Castellanos as balancing out Crawford's better value?

Is the H.Harvey market that robust?

Anyone else think Dustin May could be an interesting free agent target?

I’d love to see us add him on a pillow contract

Hill is on a two way contract and can be sent to AAA for $450K instead of his major league salary.

Are you sure about that? He's out of options. They'd need to DFA him to send him to Charlotte.

Hill is out of options, as is Pereira. If they want to send Hill to the minors, they have to DFA him.

They agreed to a specific two way contract with him, so I’m assuming he would accept an assignment in AAA if DFAed.  Honestly not too worried about him getting claimed.

Maybe you're right, but if Will Robertson can get claimed twice in the same offseason, Hill may have value to someone else.

Money might need to be adjusted some, but Castellanos is a $20M sunk cost.  As such, the theoretical trade is:

Robert at 1/$10M + Benintendi at 2/$15M for Crawford

And I’m ok with that if better OF options present themselves

The Sox should be all over this IMO.

2026:  $5M

2027:  $6M

2028:  $6M player option or $10M club option

Why'd they dump him?

He was outrighted, which I guess means he already went through waivers and went unclaimed.

No one wanted him because he is still owed $17 million dollars over the next 3 years.

Blue Jays sent RHP Yariel Rodríguez outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

Rodríguez, who is owed $17 million over the next three years, passed through waivers unclaimed after being removed from the club’s 40-man roster to make room for Cody Ponce.

That makes more sense, didn't realize he was already outrighted.

Blue Jays are also looking to trade Jose Berrios.

Getz won't be answering that particular phone call.

Getz is still scouring the Asian market for deals on stiffs.

That is one of the worst contracts in mlb. I think $66 mil for a guy who’s considered difficult. I bet they want to trade him.

I want JJ Bleday for RF.

Not sure what Robert would fetch in a trade.

Relievers I would want are Jakob Junis and Gregory Soto

Jays probably headed for a $300 million payroll...

"It has already been a busy offseason for the Blue Jays, who have signed Ponce and Dylan Cease to multi-year contracts, and Shane Bieber is also staying in the rotation after declining to opt out of the final year of his deal.  This puts the Jays in line for approximately a $267.9MM payroll and a $282.5MM luxury tax number (projections courtesy of RosterResource), and this is before Toronto addresses its lineup or bullpen needs heading into the 2026 campaign."
