And not a shocker that May would choose the Cardinals over the Sox...even with attendance significantly down in StL, still a much better supported team and home environment. Plus he seems more comfortable in the NL. Yeah, so 1/$10-11M for like a Single-A arm would be a steal.
WestEddy
As a journalist, I hope the Mets sign Pete Fairbanks. He gives brutally honest interviews. He would be a revelation in the New York market. pic.twitter.com/z1LIGqvbya — Mark Gooden (@TooGooden17) December 12, 2025

caulfield12
Too bad he didn't hit Mayo, too. White Sox and Mets end up in a sentence together only when it involves petty JR blood feud. Edited December 14 by caulfield12

But you'd think with 6-8 teams still after him (except Dodgers), a better than expected deal would be out there soon as other options fall off the table. "That’s why MLB Trade Rumors had him at a relatively modest two-year, $18 million projection. ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel didn’t even have Fairbanks listed among 40 right-handed relievers who didn’t make the cut for his top 50 free agent projections, which has to have been an error of omission. Either way, it seems like the recent run on relievers could have Fairbanks extracting a little more than expected. Initially viewed as the kind of under-the-radar option who might have fallen to the Cubs, it’s looking like the former Rays closer could get more than Jed Hoyer is comfortable paying." cubsinsider.com Edited December 14 by caulfield12

Chicago White Sox
Feels like he’s got to be one of the next relievers going off the board. Getz has made it abundantly clear they want to add a high leverage reliever, but I could see them go a bit cheaper here to help them afford a whale at 1B. That being said, I’d love to add this guy on a two year deal if it doesn’t impact broader plans. We haven’t done a great job of having tradable relievers at the deadline and have candidly left some value on the table.

I think Getz is a guy who learns his lesson with certain players and stays "moved on". That said, Kopech has to be in the tier of closers behind Fairbanks that might be had in the single digits. Never say never, right?

After last season...Kopech is a viable closer in the same way Dillon Gabriel or Justin Fields is a starting NFL QB. He has to prove he can stay healthy first. Same with Grant Taylor, for that matter. Btw, that "moving on" lesson seems to apply to about 30 former Sox players lol. Well, except Clevinger I guess. I feel like once you burn Bannister or are deemed difficult to work with, you probably aren’t coming back as a pitcher to this org.

Ofc, same exact amount that Adrian Houser got after being basically dead in the water prior to 2025.
