Pete Fairbanks?

I don't see why you couldn't make Taylor a 3 inning opener. If he makes all 33 starts you're at 99 innings with a plan to get him to 150+ the following year.

It puts a lot of stress on your bullpen. If anyone before or after Taylor gets lit up in a start and can't go deep, you're effectively screwed for the rest of the series.

But.. he hasn't pitched overseas yet, how can Getz be interested in him?

yeah, Taylor going 3 is essentially throwing a bullpen game once every time through the rotation.

I'm not saying Taylor is one of your 5 starters, he's the opener for let's say Cannon and you let Cannon pitch the rest of the game if he's keeping it competitive. With how quickly guys are getting pulled I'm not sure this doesn't reduce the bullpen load.

You're still limiting yourself in the bullpen that way. Then you essentially only have 12 arms to use, while the rest of the league has 13. If you want Taylor to be a starter, you almost have to send him to Charlotte to stretch him out.

All this discussion is exactly why he won't be a starter, no matter what gets said to the press.

Plus not to mention Bannister hinted at the fact his durability is not suited for it.

They also planted that his extension didn't work with starting.

Yeah, this isn’t happening.  Definitely not to the Sox.  Rogers is making Fairbanks a lot more money this offseason…

A certain twitter account with the namesake of a former chubby pitcher we had said the Sox were making progress. I won't link him or the foodies tho.

Bartolo’s massive diarrhea hasn’t pulled a legit rumor since the pathetic Chicago foodies were still believed.  Bartolo has the same gimmick every time — claim an already shared rumor as his own and then backtrack when it doesn’t happen.

I post those guys just for trade rumor talk. Most of it is BS. I just get jonesing for trade talk. There doesn't seem to have been a lot of that this off-season.

I get it.  I was just informing @DoUEvenShift, but he already knows.

Fairbanks might even get three years at this rate.

I guess everyone will criticized the Rays, then, for underestimating his potential market/demand?

If the outcome of Taylor becoming a starter (ish) is 1 less bullpen arm or a few more losses that's a price worth paying. The Sox are still going to be really bad this year, if it gets us to a place where Taylor can throw 150 quality innings next year, I'm totally in favor. But the more sensible plan would be to just sent him to Charlotte for 2-3 months and let him build up to be a 5 inning guy then use him out of the pen in the 2nd half to limit innings.

Has Getz even named Taylor as the closer over Leasure?

Probably four or five

The Sox actually have a pretty good selection of righty relievers to look at when you consider Taylor, Leasure, Vasil, Alberto, Wikelman, eventually Berroa and possibly a guy like Franklin. Where they suck is from the left side.

Once Jansen is off the market, Fairbanks should be able to make a decision relatively soon. Curious to see what he gets because I think Fairbanks is priced out of the Sox budget.

No longer considered close to be a Tier 1/1A guy.  Although his declining stuff did tick back a little last season.

But at least one team in the Central is trying.

Bregman remains their biggest target.

"The Detroit Tigers were interested in Kenley Jansen for the second offseason in a row.

This time, Jansen has joined the Tigers.

The Tigers signed Jansen on Saturday, Dec. 13, to a one-year contract for 2026 with a club option for 2027, according to a person with knowledge of the agreement who couldn't speak publicly because the deal is pending a physical."

You just said two teams in the AL Central are trying. Does "trying" have a different definition for you than the one most of us subscribe to?

saber front offices are the driver of who gets paid extra. Rogers actually, believe it or not, has fantastic Stuff+

so for Rogers being 3 yr, Jansen being 1 yr + team option...that lines up.  we saw the same issue with how Fedde's success meant little on the trade market ..vs. the less-successful-better-Stuff+ Kikuchi

Anthony Kay is not even scaring anyone in the AL Central.  Nor is the Rule V draft.

Let's go by actual signed contract dollars and not rumors/buzz.

So Rays can’t move Fairbanks 1 year/$11M option (say they can even kick in the $1M buyout to a team) for anything from any team but he’s going to get a big deal? I’m confused.

2/$20-24 is hardly a big deal in this current climate for the big spending clubs.

And not a shocker that May would choose the Cardinals over the Sox...even with attendance significantly down in StL, still a much better supported team and home environment.  Plus he seems more comfortable in the NL.
