This reads like the kind of careful answer you give when you need to pretend he's not already your guy

  • This is the best news they could have received from these meetings. I do question Getz referring to it as an honor. Dude, it pretty much means your team really sucks.

  • Getz should get drunk tonight and sign an outfielder.

Lebron doing well in the SEC and Roch having some issues makes the choice a bit less obvious IMO

I only read what is on this site about draft choices...is Roch still thought of as the obvious choice? I kind of figured that the guy everyone has talked about being the 1st pick since last season likely would not end up being the #1 pick. Just seems like someone always jumps to the top unless you have a Bobby Witt Jr sitting there? What are the national publications that follow college baseball/the draft saying?

If Lebron keeps the strikeouts down in SEC play, I don't know how you don't take a deep look.

Vahn Lackey been flying up draft boards as well.

This seems very much like prospect fatigue for many people

Again, these things typically sort themselves out over the course of a season, but please don't Rodon this if you are the White Sox. They seem to be very heavily leaning Roch at this point, but we have almost three months to still go.

Crazy to look at Roch's game log and then hear people acting like he's in a slump

Ultimately, I think if Chris Getz goes against the grain with his pick, it would be very surprising if he went for someone whose key limitation is questionable swing decisions. Seems to me that Getz prioritizes approach very highly in his acquisitions, perhaps because he (rightly) thinks it is hard to develop.

Roch is the better player, Lebron has way more swing and miss in his game, Roch is the better defender at SS, Roch rarely strikes out. this weekend was not the norm for him

Lebron is the better athlete though, so there's that

Roch has a higher defensive floor, but Lebron has elite defensive upside so I wouldn't say Roch is a guaranteed better defender.

This is baseball and projection. Lebron has louder tools, period. Lebron is rocking a 16.7% k-rate so far this year. If he stays around that in conference play, his k numbers will be pretty much in line. Agree Roch still in the lead.
