This reads like the kind of careful answer you give when you need to pretend he's not already your guy

  • This is the best news they could have received from these meetings. I do question Getz referring to it as an honor. Dude, it pretty much means your team really sucks.

  • Getz should get drunk tonight and sign an outfielder.

Respectfully, that's what got us Jacob Gonzales.

Too bad we didn't do that in 2024 when we took Hagen Smith instead of Konnor Griffin.

Good start to cementing himself as #1 pick

Holy slugging percentage. Here’s Lebron anyway

If Roch falls off, Lebron feels like the natural next choice.

But if Roch performs up to expectations, I hope the Sox don't overthink this like the Astros and Marlins did with Rodon.

Not to mention the less separation there is between the players, the most chance of negotiating some savings and pushing it out to multiple picks over the draft.  You obviously take "your guy", but if you can save a couple of million in the process, that is an extra 2nd round pick's worth of money.  It could allow you to push a pick in the 20's down to the 2nd round, and it could still leave you enough extra money from other savings to add another HS pick at the end of the draft or after round 11.

This is where I'm at. I hope Lebron and Emerson put themselves firmly into the conversation. Leverage and options are valuable.

They’ll save plenty of money on Roch to overslot the next few rounds

Jimmy, in your opinion, how many other players will they seriously negotiate with just in case Roch insists on full slot or more?

I doubt they negotiate with anyone. They’ll try and reach a deal with Roch or they’ll just take him anyway. He’s not going back to school.

Not even the Sox can screw this one up. If he doesn't pan out he doesn't pan out but this guy looks like the easy choice. An average to good defensive SS that hits like 270/330/450 is a 4 WAR player.  Be nice to inject that into the club in a couple years and move Colson over to 3B like Machado did.

None I can think of.

Me neither. More money in the conference today than in the past for baseball, but it's still not the ACC or SEC or even the Big 12.

Its a new world though. Guys like Roch never used to make it to college. Now colleges can pay more than players can make in the draft unless they are really high draft picks.

With the transfer portal many can bounce around as free agents and do pretty well.

But Gerrit Cole didn’t play in the Big 10.

Kind of like John's Hopkins

It wasn't when Cole was drafted.

Their schedule says otherwise, although they at least have quite a few out of conference games against tough opponents.

The point being that the general numbers produced this year should be huge, as his level of competition is lesser than that of the players in the three conferences that are better.
