I'll give you guys something to fixate on.  Who is his agent gonna be? Boras? If so, then we can have a real thread talking about the second-best player in the draft.

It won't change a thing.

This reads like the kind of careful answer you give when you need to pretend he's not already your guy

  • This is the best news they could have received from these meetings. I do question Getz referring to it as an honor. Dude, it pretty much means your team really sucks.

  • Getz should get drunk tonight and sign an outfielder.

His agent isn’t Boras. I believe CAA represents Cholowsky and Emerson

That would only matter for the Sox hope of resigning him after he becomes a free agent.

Are kids allowed to have agents now with NIL?

6+ years of control is still good. They did draft Rodon.

No but they’ve always had “advisors”.

Yep.....and by the time that 6+ years are up, JR will likely no longer be owner of the team.  Even if he's still hanging on at age 96 or 97, the waiting-in-the-wings owner isn't going to let a star player walk just because he has Boras as an agent.

And Rodon's agent was Boras.

Yeah that’s why I mentioned him

Yes, and Boras did his best to screw it up for Sox. He asked for money way above the slotted amount, so much so that if Sox had succumbed, they would have forfeited their first rounder the next year. Boras is no friend to the White Sox. I'm delighted Roch signed elsewhere.

Good.

Well, if he becomes a star, he could always change to Boras.  It’s what Robert did after his breakout 2023 season.

This exactly.

I was wondering with actual money out there, if they finally dropped the charade.

By the time this might even become an issue for the Sox, they'll likely have a new owner.  The old JR won't deal with Scott Boras clients concern isn't going to be a factor for anyone drafted in 2026.

Well, Boras is never good for your homegrown players, regardless of Jerry.  He rarely considers contract extensions and almost always takes his clients to free agency.

Plus, I don’t think you draft a guy wondering if you’re going to be able to extend him almost a decade later or not.

The JR vs. Boras thing has pretty much worked its way out, hasn't it? It's not really a concern that JR avoids Boras, he avoids the big money. And Boras is big money.

Seriously,  we are talking about something like a decade from from now.  Odds are Jerry is fertilizer and the Ishbia era is well under way, making this all moot.

Appreciate your analysis and enjoyed listening to your draft podcast. I forget if I asked this to you already, but how much do you think a guy like Roch would sign for? Is it likely to be the allotted slot value? Or can they snag him for less because he has no leverage? The last 2 picks were a bit lower than slot. Even Paul Skenes signed for $500k below slot.

Edit: Just saw your tweet about how a possible scenario would be them signing him for $10m and having $1.3m extra from the $11.3m slot value. Man that would be awesome.

Good question, but I think the sides would have negotiated the bonus prior to draft day.

I know that, I'm just wondering if it can be expected that he will sign for under slot.

Yes. He could beat the current signing record by seven figures and still be well under slot.

He’ll likely beat bonus record by quite a bit and still come in very underslot. Sox are in a great spot.

Are you at all concerned the Rays will try to push him down to 2 (assuming he’s still the clear 1) with their enormous pool, or am I just being paranoid?
