February 20Feb 20 Mune spoke to a media little before today's game. Said he's not too familiar with the crosstown rivalry but wants to learn. Teammates, coaches, etc. have made him feel really welcome and comfortable. Specifically shouted out Vargas as working closely with him and being available to give advice. He says the biggest adjustment is the timing/tempo both at the plate (pitch clock, higher velo) and on defense. He got asked about how he feels physically given how much he's been practicing (Shomon has mentioned he's a guy you have to coax out of the cages for a break rather than having to prod him into more work), and he said he feels good. He was reportedly lobbying to play in every ST game before he leaves, but today said he's expecting to play in around 5.

Always appreciate it against the Cubs.

Perhaps more seriously than NA based players who have a "win a job" mentality sometimes. Most of the comments on a KBO spring game are basically just "avoid injury, go through the motions otherwise". It's an approach I wish more US pro teams would take, although I get it's a fine line.

But yes, breaks are important too lol.

February 21Feb 21 The Murakami Netflix doc offered a little insight on some of the factors that ultimately sold him on signing here which included (in no particular order): having a clear path to starting joining a young exciting core being in a multicultural city with direct flights to Japan big city exposure/sponsorship opportunities On the latter point, he says he feels a responsibility to use his platform/influence for good. He's launching a charitable brand Beve to raise money and awareness for various social causes via a series of t-shirts. The first is for a pediatric cancer organization, Japan Children's Cancer Group. February 24Feb 24 ESPN Final offseason grade = C "I love the Murakami gamble. Look, he's going to strike out a ton and maybe he flops because of that, but there's also 40-homer potential, so it's a worthwhile risk for a team that needs power, especially at just two years and $34 million. Acuna -- yes, general manager Chris Getz finally realized he's not a switch-hitter -- was hyped as a prospect but looks like a bench player. Kay, a former Blue Jays pitcher, is a sleeper signing after a good season in Japan. But what doesn't make sense is that the White Sox failed to supplement the Murakami signing with more help on offense other than Hays. If Murakami does turn into a star, then he's a free agent in two years. Have you added enough to win in that short window? The payroll remains under $100 million. You'd think an 89-year-old owner might have a little more urgency to win, but alas, go ahead and yell at the Dodgers."

February 27Feb 27 Mune wasn’t in the dugout in Nagoya tonight. Ohtani already there, dressed in uniform and on the bench cheering.
March 1Mar 1 Mune taking BP with Samurai Japan. Sounds like they might have him and Okamoto might end up playing their projected MLB positions after all which seems smart. They have enough defensive concerns in the OF as is.

Pitching after Matsumoto is the question mark. Will the Dodgers actually let him take two starts after the heavy workload last postseason? Maybe they pull him early against Korea or Taipei if they build up early leads...quarterfinals and semi finals match ups will be harder this time around. Last time had Cuba. March 2Mar 2 Mune sweeping the sports front pages in Japan He went 0-3 in their first warmup game, they'll play another tomorrow before the real games start
