How about Matt Swierad? He has been the play by play for Charlotte for a long time. Give him a shot and he knows a lot of these younger guys.

The problem has never been lack of talent interested in the job. This is the 3rd biggest media market in the country. Guys fight through every baseball shithole in the US to get here. It's lack of imagination up top. After Jason, they wanted to make sure they got a guy who wasn't going to be too busy, so he could only be so good, or outwardly famous.

I always wondered why he was willing to move from TV to radio. But I am happy now that he came over to our side

TV can have a bigger audience, but it's a different experience for the play-by-play announcers. TV play-by-play is more of a multimedia hosting gig now, with all the graphics, dugout interviews, pre-taped roll-ins, musical highlight vignettes, etc. There's a production team that's calling the shots and deciding when all those elements appear and interrupt the live action.

Some play-by-play guys prefer the "pure" aspect of the radio broadcast, where it's just them and their partner describing the action.

Exactly. I'm pretty agnostic about McKnight, but when I heard him on TV yesterday it was a breath of fresh air.

It's nice not to hear the PBP guy incessantly trying to sell me on how these are such a great bunch of guys and belting out forced taglines.

SAME! McKnight would not immediately jump to the best of the broadcasters in baseball...but after hearing Scriff's forced excitement/lack of understanding of baseball/lack of understanding about White Sox history...Connor is refreshing! He certainly benefits from NOT being Scriff! I actually enjoy hearing him do PXP although that might be due to the fact I don't have to listen to Scriff!

You are never going to please everyone. It's like politics, for example, some guys never liked and even hated Obama, and still do. The older generation announcers that became classics like Scully and Hawk are few and far between. The closest guy I can think of would be Dan Plesac, a great MLB pitcher who has a unique personality. Gordon Beckham, no. Fathom suggested Adam Amin who might be acceptable to Sox fans, but I don't know any more. Things have gotten a bit squirrely in the public arena over the last several years. Me, I don't really care who the announcer is. I recall my parents would tune to Cubs games on WGN to listen to Harry because they liked him. As a Sox fan I would cringe but whatever makes people comfortable in their own skin I guess.
