Sandlin going for Charlotte

Braden homer.

Sandlin with 4K through an efficient 3 innings facing the minimum (had a groundball single erased by a CS)

Sitting 97, getting whiffs on the breaking stuff, throwing strikes so far.

Last year he was better as a RHH, this year better as LHH, but the thing I've also noticed in the last couple games in particular is that his K rate seems to be coming down finally and ofcourse he is walking significantly more this season.

The ISO is damn near .300 too which is awesome.

Confessional: I'm not really sold on Bonemer. Statistically, K rate is concerning. Aesthetically, swing looks stiff. I realize I am saying these things about a player with a 1.100 OPS or thereabouts while young for his level.

Agree the K-rate is concerning. He also only uses half the field. I think he’s a very good prospect, but I also think more advanced pitching will eat him alive if he isn’t able to adjust.

Dear God, just call Braden up to the bigs. If he can hit in AA like he has there’s no need to send him to Charlotte.

Alot of our guys have struggled making the jump from AA to AAA so we still need to see how he adjusts to that for at least a little while. Need to see what his K rate is in AAA.

Braden will probably be in Chicago before the end of the year, tho.

Colby Shelton 1-3, 2 BB tonight (18 BB 19K on the year)

.382/.495/.719 (1.214)

Caleb Bonemer 1 for 3, BB, 2 K (14 BB 37 K on the year)

.287/.414/.734 (1.148)

Boston Smith 2-4, BB, 2K, 1 RBI (12 BB 30 K on the year)

.320/.420/.627 (1.047)

Look at his numbers last year. His K% and BB% were great. They haven't been as good this year, but he's hitting a home run every other game, literally. He's being more aggressive and it shows based on his K% and good slugging. And he's young for his level like you said. Give the dude some time to adjust.

Gonzo with a bomb to opposite field. The man apparently found his power. 9 bombs in 30 games. Call this MFer up.

You're suddenly benching Meidroth when the team is playing well together?

They won't do that.

They'very already moved both Sosa and Antonacci to accommodate Chase.

Well I'm certainly giving him time. But the K rate is up nearly 50% so as I see it, it's currently at a rate that you can't safely promote him. Just for reference, Joey Gallo struck out less than this in high-A as a 20 year old. So I want to see Caleb show some real mastery of this low level of pitching so he doesn't risk getting overwhelmed later.

If he's selling out for power then ofcourse the K rate will skyrocket.

Yeah, I highly doubt Gonzalez is gonna displace Meidroth, at least not this year. Meidroth is on pace for somewhere around a 2 fWAR season.

I'm glad Gonzalez is improving tho.

Right, and he’s really making it work. My worry is it likely won’t work as well at higher levels.

I think you have to promote Bonemer if you want him to adjust. You say you want him to show real mastery over low level pitching, but he has a 187 WRC+. If it ain’t broke, hard for you to convince him to break it. Send him to AA where pitchers will be able to land more offspeed on the outside corner and see if he goes to the opposite field more often. It’s always gonna be a pull heavy approach like Bregman or Paredes, but he went to right more last year. He prioritized power in the offseason and so far he’s being rewarded.

Is Jacob still using the torpedo bat? Seemed like he started hitting a little last year when he switched to it.

I've only seen a few WS games, but it was obvious they were pitching around Bonemer. He probably swung at every first pitch trying to catch an early count fastball. I'm actually kinda of surprised his walk rate is this high as he seems to swing early and fall behind in each AB.

100%. This is exactly what I was thinking. He's hitting a home run every other game. Sure l are they really going to have him focus on being less aggressive when he's destroying A+? Call him up to AA already. Seems pretty clear A+ isn't much of a challenge for him.

Call.Him.Up!

You bring up Gonzalez to displace Benintendi and/or Acuna. If he can really hit, he'll be a big asset as a DH and a backup to give any of the other infielders a day off.

Getz doesn't have the cojones.

Gonzalez not his draft pick.
