Wasn't an easy play by any means but if he was planning to knock it down from the get-go, he could have. Then you'd have men on the corners and one out with a possibility of stopping the run from scoring.

If he's protecting his back fine, but man he needed to dive there.
4 hours ago4 hr Does anybody else think Colson's defense has regressed a bit? I'm not saying it's bad now, but he was elite during most of the first half. Seems like he's missing plays more frequently as of late that he would have made earlier in the season.

Of course, if you're kind of tight you might just not feel limber enough to get into position for dives. It's also just not something a shortstop needs to do very often since it's rare to be able to make a play after diving. I do think Sox fans might be a little too locked in on his back as an explanation for everything that ever happens.

I don't know the explanation but getting ground down a bit would make sense.
