Magic Number

Should the Rangers come back to beat the Mariners (currently down 3-2, bottom 8) they would jump Toronto and push our magic number for the wild card back to 14 (they’d be 73-73 with a win.)

They just lost, so the magic # is 13.

Do we know these are afternoon games?

No idea, just interesting that these are being posted.

Astros are just a game back of us now. They also own the tiebreaker, so it's more like half a game.

Houston wins. 1 game back of the Sox and they have the tiebreaker. Home wild card series definitely in play.

Houston’s remaining schedule:

3 at TB

3 vs KC

3 vs ATL

2 at SEA

4 at A’s

We thought the Jays would crush the A's. Not so fast.

Our magic number on them- Their magic number on us:

Cle 15-16

Hou 15-15

Tor 12-18

Tex 11-19

Win 3 straight now!!!

It would be lovely to clinch the playoffs at home next weekend against Detroit. Still very possible.

The elimination # on MLB.com is at 12. Is that because we currently lead the season series against the Guardians?

It's known as the effective number and yes. It essentially takes into account the likelihood of those things.

I think we're up 6-4 v Cleveland. So just 1 win in Cleveland gives us the tiebreaker.
We look good on all tiebreakers except v. Houston.

Being conservative I think the Sox go 7-7 the rest of the way and wind up 83-79. All bets are off if the hitting continues to flounder even though they won last night.

The Guards go 7-6 and wind up 82-80.

Every game and series is important but the Cleveland-Sox series is crucial and the Colorado-Sox series at the end of the season could be very fortunate for us but looking back at 1967, nothing can be taken for granted.

The Guards besides playing us have to finish the season with 6 straight on the road at Boston and KC, both series could be really be tough for them, let’s hope so.

Win the next two, the magic number is 8 or 9, depending on what Cleveland does today.

Cle 13 - 14

This sucks, but we got meaningful games in September. Two weeks left. Whatever it takes.

Toronto gets to play the new Rockies (DET)
