Pham already had 10 seasons of service time. Maybe there's a fraction that gets him over the line for some benefit, which would be thoughtful.

Thoughtful? So we are doing charity work during a playoff run rather than adding a player that isn’t a relic and steps away from retirement? That’s stupid and this attempt at excuse-making by you and Cali is absolutely hilarious.

The roster spot is important because Getz already traded a better rotation option in Adams for a bum in Doyle that can’t hit a lick.

Getzpologists and Getzsplaining are apparently a thing. 😆

Maybe it was just a favor to Venable to get Pham an MLB paycheck before he retired. We have no idea about the inner workings or inside info on Pham's life. Maybe someone dear to him is very ill and he

The team is in first place, and hanging on well. Your need to pretend everything is horrible is the textbook definition of stupid. Even though I'm rooting for Adams and want him to shove in Colorado, you don't seem to be crowing about his last outing. You seem to be as fair-weather about the players you pretend to mourn as you are about the White Sox.

But if the Sox winning percentage drops below their first half rate, are Getz’s deadline trades bad then? 😆

I didn’t even know about Adams’ most recent start until you just mentioned it, so I looked it up. Oh noes — 3 earned runs in 4.2 innings? Are you seriously trying to use that as ammo for your ridiculous defense of the Castillo trade, or the equally awful Doyle trade?

If buster Castillo could only give up 3 ER through 4.2 IP pitched for the Sox, we wouldn’t be talking about what a terrible acquisition he was! 😆

Meanwhile, you never addressed my response about your theory that the Sox could be doing charity work for Pham’s retirement in the middle of a playoff race. That’s dumbfoundingly stupid if true, and deep down you know it as well.

Who gives a s%*#? 28th man played one game, then they ILed him. Yes, they should be doing that. In spades. Maybe the next dipshit whose wife likes the East Coast better points out that Getz's White Sox takes care of players and looks out for their service time. It's so insignificant that I can't imagine a grown adult man whining about it this much unless there's some actual, real world gripe you have with Chris Getz. Is he on the board of your HOA?

I’m not whining at all, but your arguments are weak as f***. You are grasping at straws to excuse what everyone else knows were bad trades. Getzpology is for real.

And I would never have an HOA. I’m not a moron.

To say the Sox may be trying to help a player with some type of retirement benefit during this crucial part of the season is stretching things to an almost ridiculous limit.

It does happen of course, especially with coaches trying to get their time in and are hired by managers who are their friends and I can even see it happening at some point during a season for a team either out of contention or early in the year but not now with what the Sox are looking at.

I actually had to read the comment twice to make sure I didn't misunderstand it.

OK Ultron. What lesson did Ultron not learn after going through the history of the World on the internet . Possibly that you cannot be a Tin Man with no heart. But le'ts drop a home made meteor and destroy the earth because we're doomed ! And 1 AB dude... 1 ! Is there anything ticking in your chest Mr. Grinch ? Spewing Venom as usual.

I just wanted to make a few of movie references.

Whatever you say, old man Ron Willie. Your movie references suck almost as much as your hot takes on awful trades.

1 AB was never the point and you know this. Getz/Venable should not be the GM/manager providing a charity case for a 38-year old bum outfielder that has earned $38.5 million in his MLB career. You and WestEddy are struggling to defend a bad acquisition and it’s absolutely hilarious. If Pham needs help with his retirement after earning $38.5 million in salary throughout his career, he’s dumber than your current theories on why gave Getz/Venable acquired him in the first place.

You're right. You're not whining. Because whatever you're doing is too weak to be called whining. More like whimpering. I'm not this way, but I have empathy, so I can understand how a guy like you can dream for years the Sox would hire a big burly man as GM, and he'd kick your door open, carry you away like Officer and a Gentleman, kiss away your tears, and sign a bunch of shitty free agents for a lot of money that would make you feel like a man, again, for an off-season - but then you get "no frills" Chris Getz who builds a winning team, and you don't get your burly man. Big letdown, I can imagine.

Don't worry, the bandwagon will be here when you decide Cubby Blue doesn't match your toenail polish. Us Sox fans are always ready to welcome you "never-were's".

tonight Will decided Quero was a better pinch hit option than Doyle.

I sometimes have to read comments twice before I put on my readers. I understand the struggle. Reading everyone's comments, I keep thinking I woke up from a dream. I log on and look at the standings, and the White Sox are in first place. I can see why y'all are so mad. Chris Getz has built a winner faster than you thought anybody else could have. He pulled the rug out from under your feel. Y'all convinced yourselves you'd have a good dozen more years of taunting real Sox fans with how smart you were for hating the team down to their pinstripes.

And he decided Doyle was a better pinch running option than Quero. Then he decided Doyle was a better outfielder than Antonacci. The White Sox won 10-1. Sounds like he knows what he's doing.

Feel free to contribute to the Tommy Phan retirement/pension fund anytime you wish. 😉

"Chris Getz has built a winner faster than you thought anybody else could have"

sure, in the AL Central...they're quite fortunate not to be in any of four other divisions

And 2 1/2 years is hardly some miraculous turnaround record...the Royals went from 56 to 86 wins in one single offseason.

Same AL Central division...arguably the weakest in 2024 and 25 as well.

While Getz will will probably win AL Executive of the Year, TB will also get a ton of votes (GM/manager), as well as Cleveland for doing it with the lowest payroll in the majors by around $25-30 million.

Getz gets his due credit for Vargas, Tristan Peters (as does Carlos Rodriguez), Hudson and Grichuk...while the jury is still out on Mune and (especially) Luis Castillo, not to mention Doyle, Teel and Braden.

Just like Jose Abreu falling into their laps a decade prior, Getz does get credit (and Brooks Boyer as well) for convincing JR to pony up $34 million to sign Murakami when nobody else was biting on long term deals closer to what Okamoto received from Toronto.

Whether he repeats Rick Hahn's 2019 AL Executive of the Year award depends on what he does next...following the White Sox 2022-23 path (or Orioles for that matter), OR OR OR building a winning team sustainable for the next 3-5 years.

Service Time

10.092 (2025)

Tommy Pham needs 10 years and 5 days of service time to qualify for the 10-year and 5-day rights in Major League Baseball (MLB).

After ten years of service and at least 1, 000 days on the roster, players can receive a maximum pension benefit of $230, 000 per year; this increases to $275, 000 in 2024. Pension contributions amount to $5. 45 million annually, with eligibility starting at four years of service instead of five.

Do you think the trade has been bad for the Sox this season?

WE literally said that he would have crapped all over Getz if he had traded for Jo Adell. Meanwhile, Adell would have been a better acquisition than either Castillo or Doyle, while potentially retaining Boston Smith and Mason Adams.

@fathom has also posted numerous times how bad the Sox are against left handed pitching. Instead, Getz acquired a buster in Doyle that hasn’t been good for 2 year at Coors and the 38-year old rotting corpse of Tommy Pham…

But once again, Adell would have been a horrible acquisition.

So many WE homer takes…

Well, that ONE start though!!!

What is it now, either 5/6 or 6/7 starts now that have been by definition non-competitive?

At least Mason Adams has managed a 3.95 era in three starts in a historically challenging environment for pitchers @ roughly $7 million less THIS season.

And that doesn't even account for what they will have to do with that ugly contract in 2027...if the season even/ever gets underway.

What is it with you guys? It's weird how the guys who WEREN'T haranguing me all winter, mocking me for thinking the Sox could win more than 75 games - don't need me to blame Getz for not conducting a stellar, 10-win TDL. None of you guys deserved a good TDL. You didn't deserve a playoff run. The Sox didn't lose 100, or even 90. Admit you were wrong and move on.

I have a great idea. Why don't you lay out how wrong you were, and what a great job Getz did in building this team to be in FUCKING FIRST PLACE ON SEPTEMBER 6TH, and then I'll talk about the trade deadline. Until then, you can just go look up my many comments on this.

WE tried to argue that I didn’t mention Mason Adams’ most recent start because it wasn’t good and he gave up 3 ER in 4.2 IP. If Castillo could do that, no me would be complaining. WE is fucking delusional.
