The trade deadline is the only reason the Sox haven't won this yet/the Guardians are still in it

Top 20 Mariners Prospects, Post Draft and Trade Deadline...

Revising my Mariners prospect rankings following the 2026 MLB Draft and trade deadline.

Keep in mind this is THE #1 system in baseball now...with MIL and LAD right there.

Extensive Boston Smith write up.

I’m sorry they gave up Smith. They caved into pressure from the fanbase to force something to happen at the deadline. It was a token halfhearted effort, and unfortunately an example of why if you worry about what the fans in the stands want, you’re soon to be sitting next to them. Wasted a prospect for nothing.

Castillo is a failed acquisition. But gaining a dude at the deadline was clearly not a full throated effort by design. Lets see what happens next year when the heat is actually on him.

Not full throated but a failure in every way. And gave up more assets than a team like CLE did, who got much more. The philosophy to go after players under control past 2026, with the lockout looming, was pretty ridiculous.

Getz had a really good year obviously, but the deadline was a disaster. Tough to trust him moving forward imo.

The numbers don't lie.

Those giving credit to Getz also need to saddle him with this shithole.

Well, they kinda lie. The Cleveland players, their batting talents, aren’t anywhere as good as this very small example indicates. These average players are feasting on the overused and tired arms of the Sox pitching staff. If Cleveland wins this series, does anyone think these same players will have that success against TB pitching? Did those certain players burn Sox pitching in July or early August before all the Sox pitchers’ arms started falling off from over use?

Those good stats, again a small sample (mostly the two games in Chicago), is at statement on the White Sox pitching collapse, not brilliant trade deadline pickups.

Now it is still a valid statement that, at the deadline, Getz got nothing to help the Sox. But it’s simplistic to overrate the Cleveland pickups on a small sample size against bad pitching.

No. Tampa will likely carve up either team.

They must be loving that both teams are fighting to the death with depleted pitching staffs.

CLE has a much better chance to beat Tampa than the Sox, but it's still probably under 20%.

The Sox are fried. They could win tomorrow with a good game from Burke, but they'd have trouble beating COL or OAK in a 7 game series with their pitching in the shape it's in right now.

If we win Saturday, I will be seriously concerned with who we would even pitch for the first 3 games of the ALCS. I guess that will be a good problem to have at this point, but it looks real bleak. Cleveland can at least start Messick in game 1 on regular rest.

Good Lord, I hope that isn't how Getz makes his decisions!

Guardians offense was significantly better in the second half than the first half

I would guess: Game 1: Fedde (doubt we see him Saturday), Game 2: Martin (if not needed Saturday, otherwise bullpen game), off day, Game 3: Burke

I welcome that discussion late Saturday night!

I understand and respect your positions...but a contending team at the deadline should worry about a "small sample size"! Winning means you worry about NOW! The STRETCH! I get you don't want to do something stupid...but Cleveland made additions with the stretch in mind! For some reason we made additions thinking that Luis Castillo will have some sort of value to us in that stretch AND next year! Doyle as well...in a normal off-season...do the White Sox even offer Doyle a contract/arbitration?? There is NO DOUBT Cleveland's front office was much more successful than the White Sox front office was!

Heat will be even more on Castillo?

To retire or face constant booing?

Just not getting how 2027...when/if it happens, would be considered more pressure?

Could just as easily end up being totally written off like Moncada's final Sox season.

This is a good point. If he doesn't come out blazing hes going to get booed out of the stadium.
