Let's look at the bright side - the Sox are going to have an absolute STAR in Caleb Bonemer

Featured Replies

Wherever this kid goes, he hits, and he hits HARD. He's got 3 doubles and a triple in 22 ABs at AFL. 1.007 OPS. Had a 140 wRC+ in AA as a 20 year old. 37 HR in 132 games.

This guy is going to be an absolute star. He's got 40 HR potential. The only question is where will he play. He's faster than expected and is playing CF in the AFL. I believe his home to 1st time he got clocked at recently would put him at 55-60 grade speed. Would be awesome if he could play a good CF. I'm guessing we see him at 3rd or in the corner. With his speed and arm he's got potential to be a plus fielder at the corner.

"Though he's a fringy runner out of the batter's box, he can produce solid sprint speeds once he gets going and has a knack for stealing bases."

Then there's outfield sprint speed vs time home to 1B and home to 3B on a triple.. probably the truest measure.

Keeps getting 50 run grades.

I can't wait to see both Bonemer and Roch on the MLB roster.

Given our propensity to rush guys to the MLB roster with disastrous results, I can wait. But I agree, they will be special.

19.2% is good to see. Especially now

This regime haven’t really rushed anybody.

Yeah, Not sure what year he’s living in. We got a Boner Homer today. He and Shelton both went deep. If Shelton could get more consistency he could be a guy too.

Andrew Vaughn enters the chat

Carson Fulmer, Gordon Beckham, Oscar Colas. . . Just a couple more that come to mind.

In 7 AFL games Bonemer has 3 doubles, 1 triple and 1 homerun.

Not saying he won't be a great hitter, but he has all of the hallmarks of a dude that sees the extremes at the major league level with his boom and bust homer and K rates. We love him now, but I am sure he will be hated for periods of time soon enough.

What do those players have to do with the current sox front office?

Don't be hating. He was only 20 years old in AA. 25% SO rate isn't that bad with his power.

Guess who had a 23.5% K rate in his time at AA as a 20/21 year old?

You could argue they rushed Braden and we saw the results of that.

Colson had 11 HRs across 96 games in A-AA as a 20 year old (mostly in A and A+). Bonemer had 37 homeruns in 132 games across A+-AA. He's hitting for WAY more power. .154 ISO vs a .300 ISO.

For some Sox fans, yes.

Pretty good point, Southsider, that seems to be the way it tends to go.

Most prospects have some glaring flaw that can be compared to another failed player (Colson isn't a failed player....yet). Easy to say "well this guy does the same bad thing as this other guy".

But, it's hard not to be excited about Bonemer.

I'm curious what the underlying reason for his K rate can be attributed to. Some guys just swing for the fences and sacrifice contact for power. Some guys (Colson) seem to have no plan of attack. Hoping Bonemer is the former. With Colson, it feels like he only has one swing and he also has no idea how pitchers are attacking him. He's clueless and has no ability to shorten his swing. Terrible combo. Bonemer might just be a fucking homer hound, he knows chicks dig the long ball and he wants more long balls.

Who did they rush this year?

His K rate for his entire time in the minors was right around 25%. He never K'd as much as Bonemer has in his time in the minors.

It's been the same institutional mess for 50+ years. After decades of watching front offices, coaches, and players come and go some fans don't believe things change with a new set of names.

I don't think they rushed Braden. I think Braden came up when he was ready but now has to make adjustments at the MLB level......it's ok to do that. Not everyone comes up and rakes, it's all a process.

There is a pattern through their history. You can choose to believe events like 2005 or the "multiple championship window" means the franchise is somehow newly created. It's honestly a happier way to look.

I'm certain this time they hired people that will be much better at it. Just like every other time.
