Graffy signs with the Royals

Featured Replies

Royals signed infielder Tony Graffanino, who had been with the White Sox, to a two-year contract. There were a lot of teams interested in Graffanino for his defense and his skills against left-handed pitchers. The Royals will platoon him with Desi Relaford

50 bucks says Graffy hits a game winning HR vs. us this season, any takers?

Man, we better start signing players, or we'll be known as the Chicago/Charlotte White Sox.

Losing Graffanino to the Royals pisses me off.

But wasn't he wanting to go somewhere he could be a regular?

So much for that.

As usual ... it appears it came down to $$$.

But this is bad, to lose two guys to your division rival, especially quality guys like Sullivan and Graffanino. Both are noted to be good clubhouse guys.

Graffanino was supposed to be one of Reinsdorf's favorites too. I wonder why the chairman didn't step in and get something done?

It will happen within the first three games of the season. Scott Sullivan will shut us down for a few innings, allowing KC to come back and give him the win.

Hopefully Graffy and Sully both do well for their new team-both great players-unfortunately they'll be our rivals and will be playing us many times...

Man the Royals hav been busy so far this offseason. How bout signin sum Twinkie players now!

Seriously, how excited would we be if we signed a Graffy type player? Nothing wrong with the Graff-man; but I'm not too concerned about the balance of power shifting in the AL Central with this move. The Royals are still behind us and we're still behind the Twins.

Besides they had to match our Uribe move like the Red Sox and the Yankees match each other's moves.

I wish Graffy the best; however, I hope he goes 0-4 every night he sees us.... :D

Good point, Texsox, except this is starting to show something.

Graff thinks the Royals have a better chance to win than the stale Sox, who

are making no moves to improve.

Good luck selling tickets, Mr. Reinsdork.

Jim my man how are you. I think he didn't step in because anything over 1 million per year is too much.

Just keep in mind, our next signing, is our first signing :bang

And last signing

hope I'm wrong, but I take this as another sign that guys don't like the Sox management -- whether it's owner, general manager or manager.

somethin' ain't right for Sullivan and Graffanino to go to KC

I'm not so sure. playing time and other things may factor in. Plus at his skill/salary level money matters more.

If winning was that important he would have thrown himself on the Yankees or Lakers and begged them for a job at minimum.

Who cares how good they are in the clubhouse? Its what they do on the field that counts. As for Sullivan, he was a disaster for us. Graff at 2nd base won't work out so well for KC since his real value is being able to play at all infield positions well. Limiting him to just 1 position like that diminishes the potential that he could otherwise bring to the Royals.

I could see Graff leaving with the Uribe move.... but why Sullivan? After realizing your bullpen just lost Gordon would you not attempt to resign this guy? A "rubber arm" type of pitcher that eats up innings and is great in a clubhouse. Some of the Cinncinnati players were crying last year when Sully was traded.

If we can somehow swap Maggs/Valentine for Garcia/Soriano/Winn(?) I'll be freakin estatic. But that scenario represents a trade that seemingly goes in our favor......therefore it will never happen.

Hopefully Graffy and Sully both do well for their new team-both great players-unfortunately they'll be our rivals and will be playing us many times...

Huh!!! I hope they Fail Miserably....

OUCH!!!!!!

You're nothing if not verbose, Cheat.

Who needs Sullivan? We have "the next Scott Sullivan" in Danny Wright.

Who needs Graffy? We have "the next Tony Graffanino" in Juan Uribe.

Don't you guys remember anything? We also had Kip Wells ("the next Mike Mussina") and Jon Garland ("the next Kevin Brown"). Don't you guys ever believe what Kenny Einstein has to say? He knows all!

I may not "know all" like our genius GM, but I do know this - if he goes into the season with this pile of crap, NO ONE will come to games, Sox fans will revolt, the team will suck a major fat one, and this franchise will go into the toilet faster than exploding diarrhea.

I could see Graff leaving with the Uribe move.... but why Sullivan?

Because Sullivan, even if healthy after so many innings, is basically a 4.00+ ERA pitcher in the AL.

In arbit, he was gonna make about 3 Mill a year or more.

Can Sox spend 3+ Mill a year on a relief pitcher in his 30s and that many innings in his arm/shoulder and THAT kind of ERA?

IF we didn't give Burhle big bucks, IF we didnt' overpay for Konerko, Koch, Valentin, IF Lee wasn't due 6.5 Mill in arbitration and IF Magglio wasn't making 14 Mill......then I'd say yes Sullivan is a pretty good fit.

But the said 'IF' is just that, and so Sullivan had to be let go......leving the Sox praying that Koch, Wright and Showneiss will have career years in the pen.

and this franchise will go into the toilet faster than exploding diarrhea.
