December 15, 200322 yr Magglio for Odalis Perez, Edwin Jackson, Guilermo Mota and either James Loney, Greg Miller or Franklin Guitierez (all top four prospects). This deal would save the Sox some money to spend elsewere, Ponson, Todd Walker, other relivers and it would give us some great talent. Any way Kenny can get this done, I hope he does so. http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-sox15.html
December 15, 200322 yr Oh s***, if the Dodgers did that...all I could say is wow. I'd do that for Perez, Jackson and Mota, let alone getting one of their other top 4 prospects. I'd be patting KW on the back for that one. Sox would get a stud reliever, a solid starter and two top ass prospects.
December 15, 200322 yr That would be astounding if they could pull that deal off. Kenny would be in my good graces for quite a while after that. The article doesn't make it sound like the Dogers want Mota in the mix, and that's certainly the deal-breaker.
December 15, 200322 yr throw in valentin to la and izturis to the sox and its a pretty fair deal (for the sox)
December 15, 200322 yr Wow, Edwin Jackson really excites me, so to get him with Perez and Mota would be awesome
December 15, 200322 yr Nice, I just love the idea of KW sitting back and letting Dan Evans become his b****.
December 15, 200322 yr If we could get this deal done, this would possibly be the first time KW actually outsmarted someone
December 15, 200322 yr If we could get this deal done, this would possibly be the first time KW actually outsmarted someone I'm pretty sure he outsmarted Minaya last year in the Colon deal...
December 15, 200322 yr It seems the Dodgers and White Sox are light years apart on this deal. When you look at Dodger's boards they are saying the Sox will fold and trade Maggs for: Perez and 2 mid level prospects. When you look at White Sox boards you see Perez, plus Mota, and maybe even Jackson. What I could hope for at best would be: O. Perez, Garcia, Mota or Jackson, for Maggs and Valentine or Konerko. Seattle Gets Lo Duca who fills a need and lose a salary which they dont want. LA gets 2 power hitters, loses perez who they did not want and lo duca and are getting Konerko or Valentine and Mags. They are significantly improving their offense and only losing a pitcher they want to dump and a top level prospect or good reliever for Maggs. That is not bad at all. Sox get Garcia, SP, Perez, SP, and Mota or Jackson. Our starting staff is set, and we get a player that can move into the bullpen and replace flash, or a player who could become a great starter. We lose a big contract but take back relatively the same salary, and also get rid of $5mil or $7mil which can go towards signing Gonzalez to replace Maggs. Our SP would be: Buerhle Loaiza Garcia Perez Garland Our Pen : Mota or jackson Wunsch Marte Koch Wright -FA or maybe the guy they picked up on Rule 5 Line Up Wed still have: Lee, Thomas, Konerko or Valentine, and probably have signed Gonzalez. That still can produce runs, if Rowand, Crede, Harris, Olivo, do anything. Our pitching would be young and have a few question marks, but we cant afford to have the Schilling's of the world, so we have to get good arms who can take us places. SB
December 15, 200322 yr Not even Dan Evans is that dumb. I thought he was too dumb to consider taking on Paul Konerko...I was wrong on that one. However, he would have to be dumber then a board to make that deal. Now I could see us giving them Konerko or Valentin and then this deal going through, but really not until then(and as far as I'm concerned, then can have Jonny-boy too....or Judy, whichever you prefer). A change of scenery would do him good and would not make the Dodgers look like they were completely jobbed. If that deal happened though, atleast I could cheer for a former Sox player that plays out in Cali. No longer can I cheer on Foulke, and I don't think I can lower myself to cheer for that fatass Colon. So get it done quickly KW, and don't get taken to the cleaners either.
December 15, 200322 yr This deal reminds me of the guy whose wife told him he has to sell his drag racing car. He prices the car so no one will buy it, but from what his wife can see he looks like his is trying to sell it. KW doesn't really want to 'sell' Maggs, but if he has to do so, he wants as much out of the transaction as possible. Not sure if it really applies or not, but it sort of seems that way.
December 16, 200322 yr If we could get this deal done, this would possibly be the first time KW actually outsmarted someone Two words. Damaso Marte.
December 16, 200322 yr I'm pretty sure he outsmarted Minaya last year in the Colon deal... I think the powers that be have more control of the Expos's payroll than Omar Minaya. And don't forget that Williams had some help from Cashman. One reason why I DON'T hate the Yankees.
December 16, 200322 yr There is no way this deal happens. If Jose V. was thrown in, that makes it more feasible, but even then, KW would STILL have the ultimate upper hand. It is nice to think about such things, and the .001% chance it has of happening. I did all day until I came to reason.
December 16, 200322 yr The deal would be great if KW could pull it off. One thing that I think hinders the deal is that the specualtion tha Nomar is headed to LA if the BoSox get ARoud then LA can't afford Mags.
December 16, 200322 yr The deal would be great if KW could pull it off. One thing that I think hinders the deal is that the specualtion tha Nomar is headed to LA if the BoSox get ARoud then LA can't afford Mags. Weren't the Angels the top candidate for Nomar if the Arod-Manny deal went down?
December 16, 200322 yr Dodgers, Angels, Mariners, and Orioles all appear to be suitors per espn rumor mill. We all know what weight that has.
December 16, 200322 yr I think this article was more speculation then an actual offer from either side, so take it for what it is worth.
December 16, 200322 yr According to LA Radio, if McCourt (New Owner) sale goes through he will set the payroll at 85 mill, which is basically what its at. I don't personally think his deal is going to go through cause the guy has absolutely no money. He owns one piece of property and thats it.
December 16, 200322 yr Any trade of this magnitude would undoubtedly be dependant on LA working out a multi-year contract with Maggs. It doesn't sound like Maggs is interested in that right now so even if LA was willing to pay in talent, it won't be enough. We here so much about 10 yr players having veto power over trades. But realistically so do marquee players that are 1 yr away from ufa. If a team can't sign them they're not going to trade for him. Take Konerko please.
December 16, 200322 yr Weren't the Angels the top candidate for Nomar if the Arod-Manny deal went down? That was before the Colon contract. i think they are tapped out now.
