Controversy

Featured Replies

I haven't seen this discussed yet but i was wondering ya'll's opinions on the matter. Shingo signed with us under the impression that he would be our closer, turning down more lucrative offers from the Padres and Yankees to make an impact on a team...but in a few articles i have read (rotoworld for example) we plan to use him as a setup man initially...do you think that this will cause controversy or that he will feel duped by the White Sox? Maybe situations like this cause so many people to leave the organization on a sour note.

I'm guessing we promised him more of a shot than the other teams did.

i guess i can see that i just took it as we signed under the condition that he wuld be our closer...

I'm guessing he looked at our pen and assumed he had a shot and the Sox said if you pitch well, you can earn the closer job.

That's my thinking as well. He wasn't gonna close for New York or San Diego or anywhere else, so why not sign where you have at the very least a shot at closing.

Yeah, that's it. I'm hoping he will be good enough to take it by far.

Yeah the conversation probably went like this...

Mariano Rivera, Trevor Hoffman or Billy Koch... who do you think you have a better chance at beating out to become a closer?

A disgruntled, disillusioned White Sox employee???

GET OUT OF HERE!!!!!

I wonder if he thought he was getting a dollar offer, when the Sox were actually negotiating in yen?

KW; "As a rookie you will probably have to sweep the bullpen, answer the phone, and be our set up guy. And yes, Mrs. Zero we are close to Marshall Fields, Lou Malnattis delivers to the Stadium, and we found your old boyfriend, he's living on the southside."

Mrs. Zero: "Honey, he said you can be the closer."

Hmm.. I bet she's a Nordstroms gal, but the rest sounds dead on! :headbang

He's a 35 year old "rookie"!!! I wouldn't expect a whole lot out of Shingo anyway!

I just hope this isn't KW's annual pre-Soxfest move!!!

I am sure we will win the pennant now! Now that we got this here Japanese guy the stands will be full and the saki will be flowing. I just read the story in the Sun-Times about this being a one club town and it ain't the Sox he talks about. Really I say let's give it a chance to work out.

How do you know this s***. Why wouldn't this be in the press? If she knows baseball she will know that he can get his feet wet with no pressure whatsoever unlike LA, Seattle, New York or playing for the cub, have some fun playing in the majors and go home with a nice few years here in the states.
