White Sox top Angels, 12-9

By Scott Merkin / MLB.com

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Michael Rivera delivered a two-out, bases clearing double in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the White Sox a 12-9 victory over Anaheim in Cactus League play Friday at Tucson Electric Park. The teams combined for a total of 35 hits.

The reserve catcher pinch-hit for minor-leaguer Ricardo Nanita, as manager Ozzie Guillen tried to break the team’s four-game losing streak. The winning rally started after the first two batters of the inning were retired easily.

Anaheim rallied from an 8-1 deficit after four, scoring five in the fifth off of White Sox reliever Francisco Campos, making his first appearance this spring against Major-League competition. Robb Quinlan and former White Sox catcher Josh Paul each drove home one run, and Chone Figgins tripled in two. Casey Kotchman doubled home the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning off Mike Jackson, but the lead was short-lived.

The White Sox pounded out 11 hits in the first three innings and hit for the cycle as a team. Frank Thomas, Carlos Lee and Brian Anderson had two hits apiece during the uprising, while Juan Uribe added his first home run of the spring. The White Sox scored two in the first and two in the second off Angels’ starter Jarrod Washburn, who allowed four runs on six hits during his 40-pitch effort.

Thomas and Lee each delivered RBI-doubles in the first, with Jose Valentin scoring the first run after tripling off Figgins’ glove in center. A Valentin ground out and another Thomas double scored the second-inning runs.

Joe Crede singled home a run off of reliever Chris Bootcheck, and Anderson doubled home two with a shot to left-center. Uribe completed the scoring with a blast to left.

Scott Schoeneweis worked four innings for the White Sox, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out seven. Jose Molina homered and Kotchman added a run-scoring single

Sounds like Anderson had a huge game. Schoney didn't do that bad.

Damn, I bet Ozzie will lose his mind if we lost this game again after leading most of the game. Good to get one on the winning column.

Looks like Campos really got hammered though... DOHHHH

I don't see him lasting much longer if he continues to pitch like this.

Good to hear we hit off of Washburn.

Indeed.

Great to hear Schoeneweis pitched a solid game following his poor performance against the Diamondbacks. Still have to admit I'm a little weary of his capabilities against a major league roster for 7+ innings.

i love a win as much as the next guy... but i still have a feeling ozzie is gonna have another chat with his pitching staff... the offense today was great, but giving up 6 runs or whatever it was in an inning is scary (and its ozzie we're talking about here)

So apparently if I don't start a game thread the whole world goes to s*** :D

Damn right, Cali. Now, I'm just going to have to go out and have a Friday happy hour...

They've got some great microbreweries here in town and I'm done working.

GO WHITE SOX!

Capos got shelled ---

Marte got touched up a little too... I'm sure he let some inherited runners score that counted against Campos' ERA.

Nice to see Ginter pitch well. I was wondering why he hadn't thrown yet.

Scott pitched pretty well. 7 k's in 4 innnings is nice. Campos got rocked, oh well. The offense is lookin good :headbang

Looks like this Jose lefty experiment is paying off so far. I think today was his second triple of the spring off of a lefty.

On a side note, I'm so pumped to see the Sox on the TV tomorrow, and Sunday. :headbang

I'm glad to see we got another win, and Scho had a decent outing. I can't see tomorrow's game, but I'll definitely be in front of the television on Sunday. I can't wait to watch some Sox baseball! :headbang

f*** IM GOING TO BE AT WORK DURING IT f***.

:(:(:(

It's good to see Anderson continuing to hit the ball well! I hope he continues to play like this when Winston-Salem's(I assume he'll go to W-S) season starts and he gets promoted to AA like Reed was.

I can't wait to see the game tomorrow and Sunday. I'm excited to see our guys play! :headbang
