Freddy Garcia

First off Garcia pitched great in my opinon.

At times he looked unhitable. You don't get 9 K's with average stuff. Some of this guys pitches are flat out nasty.

He settled down nicely after all 3 of his homers.

But that right there is a problem. There shouldn't be 3 homers he has to settle down after.

He got a little rattled after Jose's error and then served up a fat one to Guzman.

Overall I am pretty happy about his performance.

6 innings, 4 earned, and 9 strikeouts.

He had to be nervous after pitching in a laid back atmosphere in Seattle, he comes in and makes his 1st start for his new team in against the team the Sox are competing against.

Good work Freddy! :cheers

Post your thoughts here.

Thanks to Ole Jose, Freddy woudl have given up 2 runs and been cruising.

It's cool though. He pitched real good.

He's in line for the win. Got hurt by the longball, but its been a whirlwind 72 hours for him, I think he'll settle down. 9 k's were impressive, especially with 0 walks. If he stays healthy, he'll win a lot of games.

9 K's with zero walks is solid. That'll win you ballgames. He does need to keep his pitches down some more though to avoid the longball.

he seems to be all or nothing.

unhittable one batter and turned around the next.

so long as he continues to not give any free passes the solo shots won't hurt.

Great first game for Freddy in my opinion. :headbang

Freddy has great stuff, but he hung too many pitches. I'd like to see him throw more fastballs. When you throw as many breaking balls as Garcia did, you are bound to hang some.

good outing, impressed me with all those k's and no walks. here's hoping our other starters step up

Freddy pitched outstanding tonight

9 K's... 0 BB's

I am excited about the rest of this season

a win is a win, good job Freddy :cheers

I think he needs to pretend he is in Seattle still.

If he is still pitching for Seattle, he just got f***ed up. 5 runs in 6 IP is huge, even if a few of them are UER. You have to pitch around the error.

We won. That's the important thing. But Freddy can't pitch like he did tonight and think he can continue to get wins. It's just not gonna happen.

It looked like he was trying to do every thing by himself. He just ran out of gas, but he should settle down and pitch much better in future starts. I can't wait...

Nothing overly impressive, but he got the W, that's all that matters.

I think Freddy has better stuff than Buerhle and Loaiza. He has a wicked curveball, decent fastball. He is going to be a stud in my opinion, if he gets 9k's with decent wait until he gets really rolling. Like I said in the game thread. The error by Jose seemed to rattle him abit. In which it has been said he gets upset with errors and bad D. Hopefully it won't become a problem. Good game for the most part for Freddy. Did anyone see who Freddy was arguing with before Crede hit that homer??

I was very impressed. Other than the hr's he was dynamite. Control was good. 9 so's. I wonder what's going through his mind right now? If he's still with the Mariners he loses this game. He's gonna love it here knowing he doesn't have to pitch a gem everytime out to have a chance to win.

The K/BB ratio of 9/0, as many have already mentioned, is a nice sign

And i did think he hung a few too many curves throughout the game, needs to keep that thing down in the zone and if he misses he misses in the dirt.

"Pitched well enough to get the win" as they say. :)

kudos Freddy

hope he'll realize he's going to get some runs here.

And, most of all, I'm thankful we didn't blow money on Bartolo Colon or Sidney Ponson.

Perspective folks, perspective.

Post your thoughts here.

Minus the three run homer I thought he pitched outstanding. I have never watched Garcia that much so I want to see him pitch more, but based on tonight performance he has one of the nastiest hard breaking pitches I've seen in a few years.

It had absolutely sharp movement and a lot of velocity that it just bore in and dominated hitters. I also loved how he would bust hitters (especially lefties) in and he really seemed to pitch. Looks to have a dynamite arm and possesses four good pitches.

I'm really excited to have him on the team and I'm glad he could get the W despite giving up the 5 runs. He pitched way better then that and he seemed to go right back at hitters after making his mistakes.

This guy looks like he is a frontline pitcher, more so then Colon last year or anyone else, but like I said, its one start and I want to see him pitch his ass off for the Sox for a long time to come.

Freddy has great stuff, but he hung too many pitches. I'd like to see him throw more fastballs. When you throw as many breaking balls as Garcia did, you are bound to hang some.

That was the one other observation I made. He didn't throw enough fastballs, but his breaking stuff looked fantastic and if he mixes things up a little better, he'll be even better and he was way better then the 4 earned runs indicated tonight.

When are we going to see Gentle Ben behind the plate?

I can't believe he got just 2.16 runs a game scored for him with the, Mariners. Unless you'e era is under 2 it's damn near impossible to win gms with such few runs scored for you.

I know a lot of people here don't care what goes on through the national media perspective.

but -

You know Sportscenter's beginning thingy? It was sweet, they mentioned our Sox. Something like, 'Maybe these Sox (shows picture of Garcia and a SOX logo) are the real Sox.' :headbang

When are we going to see Gentle Ben behind the plate?

Speaking of Ben, did anyone see the clip with Garcia walking into the dugout after the 6th and him and Davis were talking. I don't know if they were mad at each other or if Ben was giving him a big time high five for a job well done.

Considering Davis has caught him for a few years, I thought today would of been as good of a time as any to get Davis behind the plate.

When are we going to see Gentle Ben behind the plate?

tomorrow?

9 Ks 0 BB and a W, good first game for Freddy

I noticed that the key for him was keeping the ball down and staying ahead in the count. When he went down 3-1 to Mauer, he didnt want to walk him so he just laid him a fastball right down the middle. Guzman's HR was just great woodwork. I missed the 3rd one...who was it to?
