For those of you worried about Maggs signing with the Crybabies from the Northside...rest assured, he will not.

I believe one of the teams most interested at this point, will eventually ink him to a one year deal. I like Punch's idea of Maggs to the Marlins.

Right now, we're looking at: Houston, Texas, Detroit, Baltimore, Florida

I only know what I read and hear, but Maggs knee must be in a bad way. I can't beleve a player with his talent and history would'nt have been signed by now unless there is something seriously wrong. Last year I was so upset that The Sox would let such a great player go, and I really didn't believe KW when he said they wanted to resign him. Now as unfortunate as it is I think the Sox did the right thing.

Yeah, I'm begining to see that the Sox made the right choice also.

he won't sign until he has some form of workout... his one during the winter meetings was scrapped.... Ofman on the Score was reporting he couldn't jump yet... about a week ago I believe I heard he would have a workout in 2 weeks. So we will see if something happens next week. I guess some of the teams that got the medical records Boras gave them said there seemed to be some things missing and wasn't really complete

That's my point, Boras is hiding something and teams are wary.

Didn't we offer 70 million over 5 years?

yep, and ESPN radio said it was with LESS deferred money than Beltran ended up getting

Marlins fans seem to believe he is the back-up option if they do not get delgado.

Great signing by the Mariners...

Latest News  Jan. 19, 2005 - 7:42 pm et

Mariners signed RHP Aaron Sele to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Sele, 34, would earn $700,000 and up to $400,000 in bonuses if he makes the team. He'll probably have to win a rotation spot, as the Mariners aren't likely to want to keep him as a reliever.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 07:36 PM)

Agreed. This guy used to kill the Sox. I'm surprised he's fallen this far. At that price though, he's well worth the risk. Was kinda wondering why the Sox didn't consider him when they realized the market was a little too rich for their blood.

Glad they got The Duke though! :D

Back to the Williamson signing...

Is there an option year for 2006? If there isn't, then wow... That's pretty stupid, IMHO.

Yes, for $2 million.

Really? I think sele is a piece of s***. I would sign him to a minor league contract and that is about it.

I wouldn't be at all supised if he had success for the Marlins though. When he pitched in Seattle, he was excellent there, and he's had real success in pitcher's parks before.

I sure as hell would considering he signed with the Mariners. :P :bang

]The Orioles, making a bid to acquire Aubrey Huff, talked with the Devil Rays again yesterday. According to the Baltimore Sun, the Rays are interested in B.J. Ryan. He doesn't make much sense for them -- he's just one year away from free agency and the Rays would have to give him a closer's salary to keep him beyond 2005 -- but that might only serve to make him more attractive. For any Huff deal to make sense, the Rays would have to get a top-notch young starter and a quality young infielder. The Orioles have Erik Bedard to offer. Mike Fontenot isn't the infielder, though. Jan. 20 - 3:59 am et

If they had interest in ryan i am sure they would have interest in marte. Sucks that are outfield is currently full because he is so damn good and very cheap for the numbers he puts up.

According to Newsday, the Mets will offer Carlos Delgado a four-year deal worth about $45 million in their meeting today. If true, it'd almost surely be the best proposal on the table. The Marlins are at $35 million over three years, but that includes deferred money. The Rangers are capping their bid at $10 million per season, another source told Newsday. And the thrifty Orioles don't seem willing to go higher than $25 million over three years, basically making this a three-team race. Jan. 20 - 4:08 am et

If he wants his career ruined the mets are the right team for him.

The Orioles are close to signing free agent Steve Reed, the Baltimore Sun reports. Another solid option for the Baltimore pen. Reed has a 3.11 ERA over the last four years. Jan. 20 - 4:04 am et

Damn it hasn't been a good day.

The M's are really in the opposite boat than us. We are shifting are $ from sluggers to pitchers because of the Cell & they are learning to shift their $ from pitchers to sluggers because of Safeco.

The Wrigley team is not far behind us in HR & other power numbers so the Cubune should be thinking the same as the Sox.

On another note this is a big time for the Twins org:

No home town bargains coming from Santana. If they can't lock him up to a 25/3 deal then he will likely take arbit in 05-06 & opt for FA in 07. He felt his demotion to the minors & lack of promotion from the bullpen yrs ago was unwarranted & has never forgiven the club for those decisions.

There's no way the Twins just let him walk so 05 might be his last yr as a Twin. :D

look at the mariners other pitchers, very old and not that impressive, sele fits right in

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 10:44 AM)
Look out for the marlins as a sleeper team on Maggs. If they don't end up with delgado, I could see them benching or turfing encarnacion in favor of maggs. They saw a hole in the market two years ago with Pudge, maybe they will see one now with magglio. I year 8-10 sounds about right.

$8-$10M for a guy that can not even jump???? When healthy he was not strong enough to carry the same intensity for an entire season. My feeling is that he will sit out all year and hope to make a splash next season where a workout could get him a good deal for the entire season. 8 months off an injury and not even close to returning.

Is it just me or do the Mariners have a couple of 26 year olds in their rotation, that I wouldn't mind having on the sox. You tell me that Gil Meche and Joel Pinero wouldn't fit in well on the Sox.

I'd take Piniero in a second. Meche kind of sucked last year...I don't think either of them had particularly good seasons last year...now I want to check...

:drink

Edit:

Pineiro: 6-11; 4.67; 140 k's

Meche: 7-7; 5.01; 99 k's

...yeah, I might take Pineiro over Garland, maybe Contreras but that's about it.

Not sure if this is posted elsewhere, but ESPN 1000 via Levine is saying Maggs has cancelled another workout scheduled for this week

I would take pineiro over anyone in our rotation outside of buehrle.
