November 26, 200421 yr I can tell you I b****ed like no other when the Sox acquired Damaso Marte for Matt Guerrier. I wrote an article calling for Kenny's head. I was already bitter over his previously retarded deal of sending Kip Wells for Todd Ritchie. Of course my main gripe was why give up a guy who was fighting for the 5th spot for a guy that was about to get waived (Marte). Little did I know
November 26, 200421 yr I don't know why you ask that question, one move 'alone' will really never get you to the playoffs, because in baseball, one player doesn't make a team... nobody gives a s*** about signing walker. the b****ing is about all the people we haven't signed over the past 25 years.
November 26, 200421 yr nobody gives a s*** about signing walker. the b****ing is about all the people we haven't signed over the past 25 years. And no one gave two flying f***s last year when we traded for Juan Uribe. OK - go ahead and b**** all you want. He's making 100,000 -- go ahead and start losing some sleep over that.
November 26, 200421 yr And no one gave two flying f***s last year when we traded for Juan Uribe. And I still don't
November 26, 200421 yr They haven't gotten us to the playoffs. But have those moves specifically (Marte, Shingo, Gordon) prevented us from going to the playoffs? No, in fact, they've made us a better team... I don't know why you ask that question, one move 'alone' will really never get you to the playoffs, because in baseball, one player doesn't make a team... I was intrigued when we picked up these three: Marte (didn't know anything about him, therefore intrigued) Shingo (all time saves leader in Japan) Gordon (vicious curveball and nice fastball when healthy) If Walker wasn't a 28 year old pitcher with less than 30 combined major league innings pitched over the past 4 seasons, people might not be ripping on him so hard. So you can definitely give all of the soxtalk clowns a free pass on this one. No need to defend a major stroke like Walker.

But some people (not jokingly) are criticizing the move like it's going to ruin this team and screw us. He's making 100,000 bucks if he sucks -- if he's any good, we got him for a half a million...

I was already bitter over his previously retarded deal of sending Kip Wells for Todd Ritchie. Of course my main gripe was why give up a guy who was fighting for the 5th spot for a guy that was about to get waived (Marte). Little did I know I was really pissed when The Sox traded Guerrier for Marte, for the same reason. I couldn't understand why we gave up Kip Wells, Josh Fogg, and Matt Guerrier to the same team. My buddies and I predicted that KW solidified The Pirates rotation for years to come. Glad, we were wrong. I'll give Walker a chance. Not a horrible move Kenny.

He's making 100,000 bucks if he sucks -- if he's any good, we got him for a half a million... I don't care much about the money part of the deal, if he sucks, it's only going to cost us another $100,000. What partly angered me about this move though, was that he's now on the 40 man roster, which goes up to 39. Due to this, the Sox probably won't draft anyone in the Rule 5 draft now, and there's some good prospects in there like Sisco, Ring and Webster etc., who would probably give us more long - term than Walker though. Unless Konerko and Garland are traded, or someone else, we've only got room for 1 more on the 40 man roster. I have been reading up a little of Walker in the last few days though, and apparently he's a better starter than reliever, and has had some injury problems in the last few seasons.

I would assume that KW felt that the team couldn't afford to carry a rule 5 guy on the 25 man roster all year for "long term" purposes.
November 28, 200421 yr And no one gave two flying f***s last year when we traded for Juan Uribe. I'm not sure thats entirely accurate. I seem to remember someone (I don't remember who) b****ing from the start because we traded Aaron Miles. It never bothered me any but I do remember seeing posts like that somewhere.

November 28, 200421 yr How can we make room on our 40 man roster just in case we sign a couple of FA's? Do we send the players down but do they have to clear the waivers?

November 29, 200421 yr How can we make room on our 40 man roster just in case we sign a couple of FA's? Do we send the players down but do they have to clear the waivers? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but can't people be removed from the 40 man roster just as easily as they can be sent to the minors?
