December 13, 200421 yr An undisclosed team jumped into the bidding for free agent Matt Clement yesterday. "A new team I hadn't thought of jumped in," agent Barry Axelrod said. "Not one that traditionally has had wherewithal, but might in this case." Milwaukee? The Angels, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Indians, Diamondbacks and maybe the Cardinals have offered Clement deals. Axelrod said it was "his fondest hope" Clement would sign by Wednesday. It looks like it's going to take at least $27 million over three years and $40 million over four years can't be ruled out. Dec. 13 - 12:08 pm et It wouldn't be the Brewers, so I'm thinking it could possibly the Sox (forgetting about the Unit trades already) or the Padres (who lost Boomer). I want Clement bad.
December 13, 200421 yr I don't think it's us, but if it is, I'll definitely take him. The Brewers deal would make more sense, as a cost cutting measure, for those who oppose it.
December 14, 200421 yr Clement is too expensive. He isn't all that! Maybe, but we have the money to overpay for him now. All we need is a starting pitcher and the offseason is a complete success, imo. Overpay for him if you have to but we have to land a starter no matter what.
December 14, 200421 yr ESPN Insider has a caption that reads: Sox jump into Clement bidding. ...We all know that means the Red Sox.
December 14, 200421 yr there are a few options the sox could take..and signing the free agents perez or clement should be them...no need to trade now that the sox have money to sign someone.
December 14, 200421 yr money money money moooonnney money money money moooonnney money money money tiiiitttttttiiiiiiieeeee
December 14, 200421 yr Someone said Clement was just on 720 AM at 9 pm and said he was very interested in the Sox. Hopefully good news will follow soon.
December 14, 200421 yr Kenny said he was talking with his agent for part of the day or something like that. But if he has a 4yr offer on the table worth 40 mill then I don't see him coming to the Sox. I don't see them offering more then 7 mill a year, maybe, maybe 8.
December 14, 200421 yr We need to get something done now with a Clement or O. Perez. A lot of teams right now have their focus on Hudson. You can be assured the loser in the Hudson sweepstakes will come after these guys as the next best option.
December 14, 200421 yr I like Perez cause he's a lefty and is going to come a little cheaper. However Clement is familiar with Chicago and has fantastic stuff. Still I think he has more potential health risks then Perez. I won't have a problem with either though, although I may fuss a bit if they overpay. But they have a huge need for another starter.
December 14, 200421 yr hopefully the Chicago factor plays a part here and persuades clement to stay in Chitown and play for the Better Chicago team....the Sox.
December 14, 200421 yr Just a hunch, but I think Clement will be a Whitesox by Thursday. Boy I hope I'm not on the green stuff on this one.
