When did the sox sign Iguchi and aj? Lets just pretend we did sign both of them for now, if so that team could honestly compete with anyone and I definitely think they're better then the twins on paper but the twins are the twins and we've been better on paper then them for years now. I think that team would take the division but I refuse to ever count the Twins out of anything.
January 6, 200521 yr I think the key question to the Sox will be at what level will Frank Thomas be able to play. If he can't do much the offense is going to have to get career years from a bunch of guys, no matter how good this pitching staff is, which to me is better than average at best.
January 6, 200521 yr You're comparison is wrong. It should be the Sox pre 2005 vs the 2005 Sox. But the 2005 Sox will be better than the 2004 club and probably the 2003 club. KW has finally seen where the roster has had holes, thanks to Ozzie, and is filling them very nicely How the sox match up vs the Twins is irrelevant unless the Sox are playing them. It's how the sox match up w/ the rest of the league, esp the AL central where the Twins have gained a lot of ground on the sox
January 6, 200521 yr When being compared to the Twins, we are always the "better team" on paper. Over the past three years we all know who really was the better team.... CWSOX45

Over the past three years we all know who really was the better team.... CWSOX45 Yeah thats because their young players always step up. Once again we are better on paper. This is our best team in awhile and my honest opinion is that we are better. That doesnt mean crap though so we will just have to wait and see.
January 6, 200521 yr I think that is the worse part about the Twins. It seems like every young prospect they bring up plays like an all star and ours play like crap.
January 6, 200521 yr As of right now without Iguchi and AJ I'd honestly go with the Twins. If we do get them, then it's a little closer, possibly a toss up. Everyone has to remember that on paper, the Twins don't look dangerous, but are anyways.

January 6, 200521 yr I don't know about better, but hopefully more consistent and less frustrating to watch, at least on offense. The last few years, especially last year, you never knew which team was gonna show up. Even if this team does end up in 3rd, I think we'll have a better idea of the talent we have so that we can tweak it for 2006.
January 6, 200521 yr I honestly dont think we look that much better on paper when you compare players. I think we have to get hot at the end, or we will be in second place all the way through the season.

I think we have to get hot at the end, or we will be in second place all the way through the season. On paper the pitching staff looks better at just about every spot. The hitting has lost a lot of power, but has picked up a ton of speed. It will be interesting to see how those two offensive factors balance out.
January 6, 200521 yr QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) On paper the pitching staff looks better at just about every spot. The hitting has lost a lot of power, but has picked up a ton of speed. It will be interesting to see how those two offensive factors balance out. You have to take into consideration our potentially drastically improved pitching staff. That is part of the benefit we are receiving for the cut back on sluggers.

January 6, 200521 yr I think the White sox will be about the same this year as last year, primarily because of the division we play in. Face it, if and when MLB decides to rotate the teams that must play against NYY and BOS, we will be jsut like Tampa -- close to the bottom. As long as we are in a DIV with MN, CLE, DET, KC.........we still have a chance. We should always be in the 88- 90 win range, give or take 5 games. Is that good enough to win the dicvision? We know better than anyone, most years its only good enough for second place.
January 6, 200521 yr I think we'll be better as a team, better meaning 90 wins. Whether that's enough to win this division remains to be seen.
January 7, 200521 yr I think it's a copout to say this but I believe anything can happen with this team. I have no read on it. The starters are intriguing, the bullpen seems good. Even if we get a new second baseman the lineup is a question mark. I hate to put it all on Oz but maybe it is all on him to make this team work. It seems he's been given some talent to work with, especially potential pitching talent. If we add an upgrade at 2B (I guess they're set with Uribe at ss) it'll really get interesting. At any rate, congrats to Kenny for getting a catcher. If this blows up in his face I don't see how we can blame him. On paper, he's acquired a pretty good option at catcher.
