"White Sox agree to terms on one-year contract with pitcher Luis Vizcaino"

http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...r_cws&fext=.jsp

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox and right-handed pitcher Luis Vizcaino have agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.3 million contract, avoiding arbitration.

Vizcaino, 30, went 4-4 with a 3.75 ERA (30 ER/72.0 IP) and one save in a team-leading 73 appearances for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2004. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder limited opponents to a .228 (61-267) average overall and left-handers to a .163 (21-129) average, second-lowest among National League relievers.

Vizcaino, who was acquired from Milwaukee with Scott Podsednik on December 13, 2004, is tied with Eric Gagne with the seventh-most appearances since the start of the 2002 season (224). The Dominican Republic native is one of 11 pitchers in baseball during that span to pitch in 70 contests each season.

With Vizcaino's signing, the White Sox have no remaining arbitration eligible players.

Good news!!! :headbang

What's our payroll up to now? Do we have any arb. eligible players left?

:bang

I believe that puts us right at $70 million or just a touch over.

definately good news. I think he was the only Arb. eligible player left.

Now let's sign Iguchi for that $75 million payroll we were promised. :pray

Good sign, good sign.

Yep. He was the last one. I

good off-season and i really want to see Willie start the season i think you all are really underating him... i felt more comfortable with Willie up to bat than i did with Uribe actually. unless we were facing a lefty :banghead

I'm not sold on Vizc but for 1.3M I can't complain. He should be better than both Politte & Adkins.

Personally, I'd rather not. Iguchi is going to be a risk, no matter the cost, and to have him start for us would be questionable.

I have said all along to just bring in a 2B/SS who hits LHP well to start at 2B against LHP, in place of Willie(who, best case scenario, has fewer then 20 at-bats against LHP this year), and as insurance too. Save that extra $3+ mill on guys at the deadline.

I agree but Miguel Cairo was already signed. There are no quality 2nd basemen left. I would like Barry Larkin on a 1-year deal but he is still looking for a guaranteed starting job. And still, Larkin is a righty bat but he actually hits righties better than lefties. He can't seem to hit lefties at all.

I say we go with what we've got (considering what's still available) and save the money for a mid year pick-up.

With so much of the Sox ??? this year being health dependent it would be nice to now some $$$ is available to afford a replacement.

This is great news. Everything said at Soxfest by both Kenny and Posednik seemed to indicate that Luis has damn good stuff.

Are you saying Iguchi @ 5 million? If you were, ugh -- no way, five million doesn't go to an unproven quantity such as Iguchi.

Then again, if you had the payroll pegged at 72 million and meant three million per year, then I totally agree. :)

As for the Vizcaino signing, nice job Kenneth! :headbang

Did you read the article? I figured a stat-head like yourself would be impressed with these numbers:

The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder limited opponents to a .228 (61-267) average overall and left-handers to a .163 (21-129) average, second-lowest among National League relievers.

I think you will see the white sox trade for Tony Graffanino, and then platoon him with Willie Harris. The team will then be set, and it leaves room for the sox to trade mid-season.

It would be the ideal situation if TG is healthy.

By way the glad that we got Vizcaino signed for next year.

i would think so

idonno dont count out pollite now since he shouldnt be any pressure situations i think he should put up some solid numbers... that 8th inning was rough on him.. now he is a 6th or 7th inning man.
