March 4, 200521 yr QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) Paul a catcher? thats freakin hilarious! Was that what he was drafted as? He was drafted as a catcher but a chronic hip problem forced him to move positions. He was at third for a little but (go figure) he wasn't quick enough so he wound up at first.
March 4, 200521 yr I don't know what his D was like as a catcher but it's too bad about his hip. His offense from that position would be a huge plus.
March 4, 200521 yr I've got the same card, same autograph, black pen. He played catcher, and in interleague for MVP all I do is put Thomas at 1st and Konerko at catcher.
March 4, 200521 yr man if he still caught he'd be an all star every year, he might even be the best offensive catcher in the game
March 4, 200521 yr Virtually every player that comes up seems to play SS, CF, or Catcher. THat's just where a HS or College team puts its best player. If you think Paulie would be a sick catcher, think for a second if Carlos Delgado would have stayed at catcher......
March 4, 200521 yr QUOTE(soxhawks @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) man if he still caught he'd be an all star every year, he might even be the best offensive catcher in the game i agree that pauly would be a plus offensive catcher, but there is no way to tell what his offensive numbers would be if he still caught. the whole thing with catchers is that it is taxing on the body and you wear down easily. in addition, catchers focus on defense first, and dont spend as much time in the cage. i dont doubt pauly woudl be a very good offensive catcher, but he would probably not put up the same numbers that he does now

March 4, 200521 yr Author ya know for some reason it had never occurred to me that Pauly was only 28... why wouldnt we want to keep him around for at least a few more years...? it seems like he's in his prime and it'd be foolish to dump him wouldnt it? I mean he's only a year older than A-Row
March 4, 200521 yr Paulie as a catcher...yeah, that would be great. He's not nearly slow enough now. With the added wear on his knees, he would make Smokey Burgess look like B. B. Richards.

March 4, 200521 yr I have a Paulie rookie card where he has all the catcher's gear on and I think he's got someone caught in a pickle.
March 4, 200521 yr QUOTE(Jake @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) haha i have that card somewhere I have several of them as well.
March 4, 200521 yr Speaking of interesting pics, somebody on this board needs to buy this t-shirt: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW

March 5, 200521 yr QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) Biggio was drafted as a catcher as well. Just an interesting fact. Biggio not only was drafted as a catcher, but came up as catcher. I believe he was even an all-star as a carcher, but I could be wrong about that. It seems to me I recall being impress that the guy could make the AS team as a catcher, then as a 2B. Biggio's a pretty phenomenal player, when you think about what he's done over the years.
