April 12, 200520 yr What is wrong with Marte, specifically against lefties. It seems whenever he faces a lefty, he falls way behind in the counts, and either walks him or gives up a hit. He seems like a totally different pitcher from 2 years ago.
April 12, 200520 yr Patience Grasshopper....Marte will be fine. If theres a reliever out there that you want to worry about, make it Politte....until I see him have 3-4 solid appearances, I'm worried. Otherwise, I like our pen.
April 12, 200520 yr Marte against lefties last season in a "down" year for him. .143 AVG, .214 SLG, .256 OBP, 2 HR's in 98 AB's. It's been 1 week (god I've said that a lot today), he'll be fine.
April 12, 200520 yr The thing that worries me about Marte is that he's not following through on all his pitches. It just seems to me that he releases them too early or doesn't try to throw harder when he definately can so he doesn't get the pitch exactly where he wants it.
April 12, 200520 yr He is getting the job done right now with bad command. When he gets his command back in order, he'll be flat out nasty. No worries for me about Damaso.
April 12, 200520 yr I was seeing cracks in Damaso's armor last year, and knowing how relievers seem to come and go, I was an advocate for considering including Marte in the right trade. Of course, I was totally shot down here, but that's ok. That's what makes this board special. I hope he can turn things around to where he was two years ago, but I have a gut feeling he's on a gradual slide.
April 12, 200520 yr His main flaw yesterday was he wasnt fooling anyone away, nobody chased his stuff, AND he was missing the outside corner. A little more aggression would probably shore up his appearances nicely. He wouldnt be getting behind as often and would keep guys on their heels. Edited April 12, 200520 yr by ZeroHour
April 12, 200520 yr They talked during the spring about wanting to get Damaso to bust the lefties in on the hands a little more. Also you could tell either his release point was bad, or he wasn't following through properly as he was leaving a lot of pitches up. It didn't sound like that yesterday, but I only listened on the radio too FWIW.

April 12, 200520 yr He can't seem to get his breaking ball over nearly as often as he did two years ago. That big swooper he throws often ends up in the dirt now. As much as Manuel used him, it's no surprise people are having better ABs against him.
April 12, 200520 yr QUOTE(ZeroHour @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) like Manuel had a choice... Hmm....Marte, Cliff or Mike Jackson? Cliff or Jackson weren't here when Manuel was here. They both came last year and Manuel's last year was 2003.

April 13, 200520 yr He wanted to be a yankee anyways... so even if we matched it he would of gone.... But yeah i wish he was back.
April 13, 200520 yr First post on the site. His control isnt the only thing that bothers me. He has no life on that breaking ball. It used to a nasty sweeper. I thought it was one of the best breaking balls in the AL. Now, it's not doing anything. He's a one pitch pitcher at this point and his fastball is very hittable when hitters can lay off the slurve.
