He had 10 days to decide whether to take his $1M and a tour of the International league or become a free agent.  He chose the cash.

That's the complete opposite of what you previously posted, is it not?

I don't think any team was able to claim him.

Why do people keep assuming that we can trade Ben Davis for something?  The only way to get rid of him would be to pay most of his salary so we might as well keep in the minors

Don't kid yourself, Davis has trade value. He's not going to get us a first rate prospect, but he does have some value. I like the fact he's still with us in case AJ or Widger goes down.

No, he really doesn't. Any team could have had Davis for the cost of a waiver claim. Unless he lights it up at Charlotte and a team loses their catcher to injury, Davis has zero trade value.

I disagree, but whatever.

He had to pass through waivers to get to AAA.  Nobody wanted him.

If a team had claimed him off waivers they would've also been responsible for his $1 mil salary, thus the reason he was not claimed. He also didn't sign with someone else because he would've had to forfeit that $1 mil and Mrs Davis didn't raise that much of an idiot. He still has value to teams(if the Sox pick up most of that salary) and that could include the Sox but we really don't have a need we need to fill at the moment so why force a trade.

Thanks for proving my point. If the Sox have to eat most of Davis' salary just to trade him, that means that he doesn't have any trade value.
