July 19, 200520 yr The Red Sox recently designated Alan Embree for assignment. Appearing in over 70 games last season, Embree proved to be an important piece to the Boston bullpen. We all know how Ozzie views relievers and favoring matchups, well, Embree, if available, could merit a look by Kenny and co. Veteran + Post-season expierence + recent Sox pen move = possibility? 1-4 7.65 ERA 1S 37.2 IP 8HR Career Numbers
July 19, 200520 yr I'd say Embree could get a look if something happens such that Marte or Cotts can no longer pitch. Aside from that, he is not going to fill any other role in our bullpen and certainly will not be an upgrade over the pieces we already have in there. He's a better option than Kevin Walker, but again, that ain't sayin' much.
July 19, 200520 yr If we got rid of Shingo, we sure as hell arent going to pick up Embree. He sucked for us once already (1-2 5.03 ERA in a half yr). The only good thing about the deal with the Giants was that we gave up a bum erek Hasslehoff, who has never made a major league debut!
July 19, 200520 yr Yikes, I dont even want to think about him throwing bombs again in the Cell. Stay away, stay far far away
July 19, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) Yikes, I dont even want to think about him throwing bombs again in the Cell. Stay away, stay far far away The HR number is very, very troubling; however, if Adkins' name is even being discussed by the Sox brass--which it very well may not--Embree deserves a serious look. Adkins v. Embree ...gimme Embree.

July 19, 200520 yr I loved him when we got him the first time, then hated him the instant he took the field for us. I'll pass. Then again, Kenny just loves veteran relievers over our studs in the minors, so he is better than a couple of our options.
July 19, 200520 yr Just what we need... more "proven veterans". Seriously for a second, though, he's been a little unlucky this year, 3.99 FIP. And, over the last three years against lefties (about 300 ABs), he's held them to a .221/.247/.361 line, with a .608 OPS. So he might be a decent option as a LOOGY, if you could get him for beans.

July 19, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) Go for it. He's better than Shingo. Wasn't he on the Sox a few years back??? Yeah, he used to be here and he blew ass. Pass
July 20, 200520 yr QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) I wish we had studs in the minors. Jenks?
July 20, 200520 yr QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) he sucked with the chi sox i dont want him...he was worse then Koch in my mind :puke
July 20, 200520 yr QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:11 PM) Jenks? he is in the majors now...
July 20, 200520 yr QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:12 PM) he is in the majors now... I think he means he wants some stud propect to come up and they way he is pitching im hoping he gets his wish.
July 20, 200520 yr Damn, have any of you that want him actually seen him this year? The guy throws straight fast balls and doesn't have the velocity anymore. Boston is at or near the bottom in bullpen ERA. Why would a team at the top want to add a team at the bottom's cast-offs?
