Ozuna or Crede?

Featured Replies

When Crede comes back off the DL is he going to get an automatic bid back into the starting line-up? If you ask me, and I'm no genius, but I don't activate Crede. I keep him on the DL and go with Ozuna and Blum the rest of the way. It's obvious Ozuna has given the Sox some spark with his speed, but he's not quite the defender Crede is. However, Blum can toss some leather at 3B. Would it be wise to go with Ozuna and Blum the rest of the way? Discuss.

Eh. I don't know. Not a lot of inspiring choices there. As much as I don't care for Crede, I don't think Pablo will do much against October power pitching (neither will Crede) so I'd take Crede's D but am hoping for another option in 06.

play crede for his glove and if we need to get some speed on the basepaths late in the game put in ozuna. i dont like blum's glove at all.

If Crede comes back before the postseason, have Ozuna and Blum finish the season at third, because we'll have the division over with by then. In the playoffs though I agree that Crede should be a starter with Pablo coming in in the late innings for some offensive speed.

Ozuna! He is starting to look comfortable at 3rd. He also fits our style of play.

Continue to start Ozuna as long as he's playing well, with Crede coming in as a late inning defensive replacement.

If Ozuna begins to falter, either at the plate or in the field, Crede can resume his role as starter. But if Ozuna continues to play as he has been, he should not go back to the bench.

As much as it seems like Blum is a good guy (as a person) he hasn't shown the defense of Crede nor the O of Ozuna. You have to activate Crede and hope that he hits a hot streak during the playoffs and wins us one or more of his patented late inning heroic shots that have been lacking this year. I'd be mortified if the Sox stuck with Blum.

Crede, baby, Crede.

He's a better player IMO.

Ozuna's 5 for 25 in September with no walks.

Just throwing it out there for those that say go with the hot bat.

If Crede's healthy, he's our guy.

I go with Ozuna...Crede's bat just sucks.

Definitely Crede. Ozuna is good in short bursts, not a starting 3rd baseman in the playoffs.

i think we should start mike schmidt

The fact that we are asking this question and seriously thinking about it lends to the school of thought that Joe Crede os not a Major League 3rd baseman. Ozuna has cool a bit in Spetember, but lets see Crede give the sox a spark by stealing home. Ozuna has been getting better at 3rd, and as long as he hits better than .230, he is an improvement on offense. With Crede abitration eligible and BorAss as his agent, we may need to get more used to seeing Ozuna at 3rd this year. Management wants to give Crede little argument for a raise (not much problem there). I suspect Ozuna could be big in the playoffs, that unknown guy who does something big. If this is true, Ozuna could be at third opening day 2006.

No matter what, keep the Crede banner!

Crede. Ozuna is a bench player/spot starter, and Crede's defense will be big in the playoffs where every run is huge. Blum was picked up by KW as Crede insurance. When Crede is back, send him to the bench... PLEASE!

I'd rather keep Pablo out there. He's become very comfortable at 3rd and he's been solid out there for a while now, plus having him in the 9 slot can really make things happen for the bottom of the order with his speed turning the lineup over to Pods.

Plus with Crede in the line up in place of Ozuna, there are no automatic outs in the line up.

I cringe everytime a ball is hit to the 3rd base side of the infield when Ozuna is in the field. He's a good SS, but a mediocre defender at best. With a team that relies on its defense to help its pitching, you have got to start Crede if he is healthy.

Crede. That's a no-brainer. Pitching and defense, folks.

Those are good points.

I was going to say, what a choice from hell: Crede's gold glove defense but awful hitting. Ozuna seems to hit well, but can be iffy over there (although he seems to have settled down lately).

But as you guys said: if we're built around pitching and defense, I guess I go with the guy who's the better defender.

And hold on to your hats should Crede find his swing during the final stretch.

I posted this before. Here it is again, Joe Crede's numbers.

2002 .285 .311 .515 .826

2003 .261 .308 .433 .741

2004 .239 .299 .418 .717

2005 .232 .285 .408 .693

His career is hanging by a thread right now. I like the guy and of course his D is solid, but the offensive numbers don't lie.

Has the Geoff Blum experiment ended? Not seeing him much lately.

Realistically, not many guys have a break out year in their fourth or fifth season. If it doesn't happened in a guys first two or three years in the league, he is bagging my groceries for me if he did not save his money. This is as good as it gets, he will probably only go down from here. Defense important, but how about some offense.

That's one. For every one you name, I can give 20 failures.
